You're right Bungendore. I called Tracy today to lodge a case number. I was told unequivocally that the "update" will be ready in 2 to 3 weeks and that we would have to pay for the "update" as it was not a "fix". I don't mind paying for updates but this is not an update. I consider this a fix to a flawed system.

We agreed to disagree on the fact that the SATNAV is not fit for purpose. How can Jeep tell me that the shortest route from Canberra to Batemans Bay is via Sydney???

I've also given them the option to replace the whole unit at their cost or apply the update and I've got all the documentation ready for the Office of Fair Trading.

We should mount a group action with fair trading - this is outrageous.

Only problem with that each state has it own fair trading.
Don't know if it could be done through the ACCC

Re: Navigation System Quirks

As discussed other places - the ACCC will not take on the case. They have priorities and Jeep and say one hundred complaints are not tops. After three approaches, including stopping by their main office here in Canberra - they sent me back to my local A.C.T. Dept of Fair Trading.

They were very good. Told me to make a claim for not only the cost of the GPS, but also my travel to and from the dealer (at the tax rate of 71c) plus charge for my hours of contacts with them and ACCC and Jeep at a reasonable rate - I claimed $50 per hour.

With my claim for all of the above - and the push with the government consumer department - I now have the beta disk installed. It is much better - but this system is only basic and even the $49 GPS from Aldi is more sophisticated.

That is no 'update'. It is a fix. And I know that Jeep will respond better if you contact them again (after lodging a complaint and getting a case number) if you use your state consumer department.

AND ALL OF THIS WAS FREE OF CHARGE.

Thanks Bungendore, it seems like a lot of hassle to basically fix a crumby system anyway. I may just continue using my garmin. It fits nicely in the cubby hole on the console where the 12 volt socket is ( hate having it stuck on the window). Even with the door on the cubby closed it beeps at me to warn about speed cameras (something the Jeep system can't do anyway). I'll wait until my next service in a couple of months and see if the dealer has a fix for it by then. I've already got a case number, so I'll see what happens.

Re: Navigation System Quirks

Just spoke to "Rob" and he states that they have had no update, and they were still waiting for the software.
What a saga.

With the new model out I get the feeling our models aren't a priority any longer.

Re: Navigation System Quirks

The abilities of my Jeep continue to amaze me everyday.
Not only can I be in 2 places at once (as evidenced, again, by my satnav) but I am also able to drive to an elevation over 1200m higher than the highest point on the Australian continent..............brilliant huh!!!
