Re: Navigation System Quirks

Phoned Jeep Customer care and lodged my complaint re the Nav system this morning.

The guy said that they are aware of the problem and that an update is due mid next month, somewhere between 15th to 25th.

They will phone me when the update is available.

Re: Navigation System Quirks

Hi Swampy did they say if it was a software update or mapping? I am going to ring tomorrow and add my bit as well and will ask the question. Hopefully it will fix the problem or at least make it workable.

Pretty sure that he was talking about a software issue, something about a routing issue with the system, choosing the wrong roads etc. I can't recall any reference to "Maps". Now I wish that I had specifically asked.

Same wording he stated to me.

IMHO and simply based on my use, the "Maps" themselves are current. It's the software reading the maps and calculating the route that has major issues.

But that could be the result of Maps with flaws regardless of the Maps visually be displayed correctly.

Re: Navigation System Quirks

The maps are at least 5 years out of date.
and up to 20 years out of date up here.
Strange a lot of dirt roads are more up to date then sealed roads out here.

And the software

Re: Navigation System Quirks

I wonder if the compass has something to do with it.
For example,
IF the sat antenna is located in a poor reception part of the dash, the system loses connectivity.
IF the sat sytem, when going into dead reckoning mode (no sats, so makes presumptions on your heading and speed) also relies on the car's compass.
IF the compass has not been properly calibrated, with the correct region.

Could be onto something there! The compass should be calibrated with the correct "declination". Worth a try!

It could be but I programed a trip to Mansfield in Victoria and checked the turn by turn directions and then compared them from the print out I had done from the Navteq website and there was over 100km difference in the trip without leaving my driveway. I am heavily leaning to the software as being the problem but I also believe the maps will be influencing it as so many areas are not verified in the mapping. This contributes to the problem as the system avoids them.

Re: Navigation System Quirks

Just got my GC back from having a software upgrade to the sat/Nav 2.120, they also wanted to replace the GPS aeriel, even though I never lost signal.
My issue was that the system wanted to send me on a 950km route instead of going a more direct route that should have been less than 400km.
Have to do more testing

Re: Navigation System Quirks

Just4fun did your dealer know about the firmware update or did you let them know about it? Also I know its early days but let us know how it goes. Deserthucker is 2.120 what you upgraded to recently from Sox's site and has it helped? I had downloaded it and made up the disk but I havent had the nerve to run the upgrade as I have been pushing my dealer to sort it out and didn't want to give them any excuses to bail out on the problem. I might ask them in the next day or two and see if they know anymore.
