Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Further to the above, I just received an update from my dealer who is clearly also frustrated on this item. Jeep Australia have now advised late May availability to the dealers.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

So I was in a jeep dealer 2 day looking at the jeep compass for a relative and asked about the tow hooks drama and he said he received and email from Chrysler Aust earlier today, and that a solution was in production now and would be available for about $300. He mentioned that it would be a single hook opposed to the double and he would probable give it free of charge 2 a bloke who had been kicking up a stink.. don't know how credible he is but it could b another piece of the puzzle and worth harrassing you dealer about if you want 2 potentially save 300 bucks..

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

I don't expect to pay 1 cent to receive half of something I was told I was to receive and that I paid for when I ordered the vehicle.

1. The dealer and/or Jeep Australia will wear the cost. If not,
2. Fair Trading will address this. If no action from FT,
3. Placed in the hands of my solicitor and I will add they provide a bloody Sat Nav system that is of "useable" standard. Not talking about some high end fancy system but something that is "useable" at least.

If my $15 a month smartphone can come with a free version of navigation software that is capable of providing accurate directions to a destination then so should this expensive Chrylser/Jeep chosen navigation system.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

As soon as they are actually available - I will be hitting up the dealer much the same as when i hit them up for All-Terrain tyres. (Jeep Aust ended up paying for this one)

The dealer can then have the discussions with Jeep Australia and between them they can decide who is paying for it between them.

As long as you ordered before the dealer was informed either by getting delivery of a 2012 model (dec timeframe) or informed by Jeep Aust (Jan timeframe) they would have ZERO argument against putting them on for free with Fair Trading.

I discussed the matter with NSW Fair Trading last week. Their advice was if you ordered the Jeep with the expectation that tow hooks were included, either based on the specs you were shown or representations made to you by the dealer, you have rights you can rely on under the Australian Consumer Laws (specifically, the consumer guarantees) and the manufacturer should supply the hooks free of charge. However, if you didn't specifically ask about the tow hooks and just assumed they were fitted, notwithstanding you ordered your JGC before the issue became publicized, you won't be able to make a claim. I don't agree with that interpretation, but that was the advice given. I would suggest you contact the Dept of Fair Trading (or equivalent in your state) and discuss your particular situation with them for more specific advice.

I successfully used the consumer guarantees to challenge a $6k repair bill from VW last week with the result it cost me nothing. I had to stand my ground with them but a bit of research on the internet and a call to fair trading allowed me to confirm my position before discussing the matter with VW saved me a packet.

I was in an Audi dealership yesterday trading in my wife's golf and was offered 3 years free servicing on their corporate program. The salesman was surprised that I wasn't offered the same deal from Jeep when I bought my JGC as it is one of the qualifying vehicles on the list. It appears most of the manufacturers have a similar program. Basically, if you buy a vehicle and work for a company which has 5 or more qualifying vehicles in it's fleet, even if they're under novated leases, you can qualify for the corporate deal which gives you 3 years free servicing. Qualifying vehicles include all models from most prestige brands (Audi, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, Porsche etc)and specific models from more common brands e.g. Ford G6E, LTD,Holden HSV, Caprice, Honda Legend, MDX, Mazda 6, CX9, Nissan Patrol Ti, Subaru Liberty, Toyota Prado, Landcruiser, Most VWs, Chrysler 300c, Voyager.

Probably too late for me to raise with my dealer, but for those who are waiting for delivery it might be worth raising with your dealer. Three years free servicing is not to be sneezed at.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Thnx Selous, good update.
I have emails and replies with my dealer confirming my discussions and showing my intent to use the vehicle for off road use. It was perhaps this documentation that ensured the dealer wrote on my delivery pick up documentation that recovery hook/s were still to be supplied and fitted free of charge. Having said that, my dealer has been excellent.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

The approach therefore should be to take the stance that as you saw the tow hooks on the demonstration vehicle, and those specs were valid at the time you oredered the vehicle, you naturally expected the delivered vehicle to have the same specifications.
If you were not specifically told at the time of Ordering that the towhooks would not be standard, then you should have a case. I will be using that argument when I approach my dealer, who I expect to take the case to Chrysler Aust.
At this point in time, I am awaiting the announcement from Chrysler Aust to what their intention are. From heresay, I expect them to announce the free fitting of 1 recovery towhook, and a available nudgebar accessory for which they will charge. ($300)? I would accept that solution.
If nothing is forthcoming very shortly from Chrysler Aust, I would suggest we select a date that we bombard their Facebook site and all ask the same question. If they are hammered, they will get the message.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Selous - They were being marketed having tow hooks fitted as a standard accessory. Im sure i can dig up a copy of the brochure stating as much.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Any thought on how one would go if bought a stock vehicle ... i test drove a 2011 limited which had hooks and i was offered my 2012 which was a stock vehicle, apparently the woman who ordered could not get the necessary finance, it had no hooks 2012 model, didnt really notice it had no hooks untill i got it home for a while. I probably wont take it off road for a while but would like them there ready.
