Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Haven't yet had a chance to take a look. However, the hook is recessed behind the cover, so it will be interesting to try to actually attach something to it

Pics of tow hook

As you can see it is a tight fitting, and I doubt whether you could use it if not a straight pull, without damaging the guard.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Does anyone know if the mounts exist to also install the hook on the driver side? Also is the install complicated on an overland with the FCW and ACC? Thanks

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

My understanding from the dealer is no, the recovery hook fitting and mount is only designed for the passenger side of the vehicle and the road tow hook fitting is already in place on the driver's side, both ADR approved. Assume this info to be true and correct, but happy for someone else to clarify.
What I am currently researching is do the nudge bar or bull bar options use the current chasis mounting point where the road recovery point currently is and where the off road recovery point is installed? I think yes, but only ECB have an option at the moment.
Now that I have my rated ADR approved front recovery point and can comfortably trip off road, where my head is at with this is that many other 4WD's on the market (Nissan/Toyota/Pajero etc) have recovery points that are manufactured aftermarket and attached separately under the chasis or incorporated as part of a bull bar option.
So I want to see what else we can access into the future.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Scarps,

Have you worked out how you will access the Recovery Hook, where the pull is not directly in front of the GC, so that you do not damage the guard? From what I can see, any indirect pull will most certainly do damage to the bumper due to it's recessed location.

I have yet to prove this but IMHO I don't think it will be a problem with a snatch strap. A D-shackle might cause a problem but with a hook, you wouldn't be using one anyway. This is quite different to road towing where an eye-bolt and D-shackle are necessary. Also, the hook seems sufficiently inboard of the front wheel so as not to put too much of an eccentric load on the car, similar to the rear hook.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

I agree with BobT - I was a bit worried about it, but when you think of the length of the rope you will be using attached most likely to the centre of someone's car, the offset would be 0.5m over a 9m/10m snatch strap would mean an angle of 3 degrees - hardly a problem. Bigger problem as BobT says if you were putting a bow-shackle in there, so have a set up that doesn't require that. I think even with that set-up you could have the car at a bit of an angle to yours (why you would do that I don't know, given a straight pull will be more efficient) it still will take a fair angle before it would interfere with just a snatch strap.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

I think the problem maybe the photos posted. As they clearly look as if it is positioned completely off centre to the hole causing a strap to be resting against or very close to the front bumperr. Anyone able to take a photo from directly in front.

My understanding is the same as yours, scarps, based on a conversation with my dealer today. However on the subject of a nudge bar, they are fitting the Jeep Australia designed nudge bar to a customers vehicle on Friday. I am going to drop in on Friday to see them so while I'm there, I'll see if I can get some more info and maybe take a picture for you.

I am waiting for my nudge bar brackets, Is the nudge bar getting fitted to a 2012 space GC? Pics would be great to show the dealer...
