Think it will depend on the snatch strap. Admittedly not easy but mine went on and then off ok.

Thanks Scott, Looks like I'll be off to buy a new snatch strap with thinner webbing.

What brand is yours?

Not sure, picked it up at a 4WD show a couple of years back. My then KJ successfully pulled a 80 series out of a spot with it. Will need to replace it sometime, but based on this info, will have to make sure the ends are supple enough to get onto the hook.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Remember that a snatch strap too strong is as bad as one too weak. RACQ recommend a strap with a Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS) of 2 to 3 times the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) http://www.racq.com.au/motoring/cars.../snatch_straps . GVM is the same as Gross Vehicle Weight rating (GVWR). The GVWR of the Laredo 3.6L is 2,948kg from http://www.wk2jeeps.com/2012/2012_wk...ifications.pdf . So that makes the an 8,100kg MBS strap just right for the GC. I got the standard recovery kit from juststraps.com.au .

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Chrysler Australia strikes again! OK, they reluctantly provided us with hooks but the hooks are very difficult to use which is the last thing one wants when seriously bogged. I had a lot of trouble getting the snatch strap loop properly into the hook and almost as much trouble getting it off. It got easier with each try as the loop on the brand new strap began to soften up. Anyway, I now feel reasonably confident that I could attach it if I had to. The main problem is the hex-bolt head right next to the mouth of the hook, see the photo. I did this in my drive way in perfect weather. I wouldn't like to try it in wait deep crocodile infested water. The saving grace is that it is on the front and not underneath as on some fourbies.
I would never use a shackle on a recovery hook but I tried my 3.25t bow-shackle anyway. There is no way the shackle would pass through the gap between the hook and the hex-bolt head.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

I think that when Jeep wrote the label " Ensure the strap is securely attached prior to recovery" they meant like attach it now even if it may be weeks/months/years before you need to use it.
That way you will be certain to have it available.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Good to see you were also able to get your snatch strap attached BobT. The degree of difficulty is a worry though as you say.

I have a trip booked away in early July and now really want the nudge bar to replace what has turned out to be a stupid hook.

Has anyone heard anymore about the nudge bar?

"...prior to recovery"? Silly me! There I was thinking it had to be attached "after recovery"

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Is it not recomended to remove the air dam whilst seious offroading? I would have thought that would have made attachment of the snatch easier? Also read in the manual to recheck the tighness of all thread fasterners on the underside of the vehicle after being off road.....WTF???

That's standard practice for any 4WD particularly after serious offroad touring and is a topic in good 4WD courses. Even the Toyota bigot, Roothy does this and has a video or two on the topic.
