It will cost you the same either way, except you may be paying LCT on that option if you bundle it in with the new car price.
If you plan to use the recovery hooks, get them to install them before you take delivery.

I think the general view is that they are a pretty ordinary design, they are tucked too far up inside the bumper and it is difficult to fit a snatch strap as the space is very confined. Pulling from an angle in a recovery might damage the bumper. But it is better than nothing.

To help with fitting the snatch strap, I cut the end off my hook - refer to my post at #481.

Luckily I havn't had to use the front hook in anger, but I have used the one on the rear which works fine.

From what I've read the new design takes into account the pedestrian safety regulations, so with any luck export models will get them again

I am not sure why designers gone for a single recovery point given its a unibody 4wd. A single point recovery could bend the uni body rail. Two recovery points with equalizing strap is the best solution.

The 12+ hook is far from ideal. Single point, behind the bumper, almost impossible to get most snatch straps onto, etc.
Better than nothing though, until something better becomes available.

We know exactly why they did this. Detroit in all its wisdom decided that all export vehicles, regardless of their destination, were to be designed to meet European regulations where every sort of metal protrusion, bull-bars, winches, hooks etc. are outlawed. This also meant that front structural members had to be redesigned. The OEM recovery hooks used on the 2011 GCs and still used in the States, no longer fitted. It was only after our outrage that Chrysler Australia came up with a lowest cost work-around solution. However, now only one hook could be provided because the opposite location was taken up by the socket for the removable tow eye-bolt.

The exact same attachment points exist on the other side, and the removable eye could have been replaced with another hook by simply making a bracket for the other side, but in all their wisdom they decided one was enough to shut us up.

But someone here has managed to get two recovery hooks at the front. I believe their dad designed it and a picture has been posted.

With the ECB fitted and the mount points reversed i.e. on the wong side. I manufactured 2 50x50 Hayman Rease points and bolted them to the bar mounts.
I then use a short strap between the two and hook the snatch through it.
Also a great solution to do difficult caravan moves with another reciever in.
