One needs an eye bolt or at least a clevis hook for road towing to stop the sling from popping off. For snatching, hooks are far more practical and safer in that metal shackles are not requited.

Jeez, I think you should seriously think about getting that engineered. I wouldn't like to be the bloke snatching you out and ending up with a chunk of ECB bull bar embedded in the back of my head.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

I know the new Trailhawk has been referenced elsewhere on this forum, but I thought I would post the link to the Jeep Australia website :

Grand Cherokee Trailhawk

So there they are, in all their red glory - twin recovery hooks.

I sent an email off to my behind the scenes Chrysler contact and I'll see if he knows if the Trailhawk is the same front end as the MY12 GC.

If I get time Ill drop into my local Jeep dealer and see if they have any in their yard.

I see the pictures on Jeep Aus web site are of the US model. Interior was left hand drive. Lets hope they keep faithful to that and give us 2 recover hooks.

Here's hoping we can order and install a set of those recovery hooks.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

See Talking Jeep Oz: Jeep Trail Hawk Grand Cherokee Is Tipped For Australia . They seem to think the two recovery hooks will happen.

Funnily enough, if the Traillhawk comes as a diesel, it will have exactly the same specs as my GC except for black paint over the chrome and bonnet. Just for comparison, I'd like to know what they will be selling them for.

Thank for that. It seems that black paint plus the trailhawk badge costs about $14,000.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

I recon. I'd prefer an overland with Offroad pack than the trail hawk..

So I went to the local Jeep dealer today to see if I could have a look at a Trailhawk - I was particularly interested to drop into the dealer as they are now also an Alfa Romeo dealer and their new building has just opened. I also own an Alfa so I was keen to suss them out.

I spoke to the young sales guy and I asked him about the Trailhawk - total blank, never heard of it. And none on the yard. Turns out he has only been their 2 weeks and his last gig was selling real estate.

So no luck there...

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Alright, finally got my second recovery hook sorted.

Old 'tow eye' bracket removed

New bracket and hook installed

Two hooks

Straps attached. I can now be recovered safely!

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Brilliant! Of course it's probably illegal because you no longer have a closed loop towing point but who cares. Tow trucks don't tow like that anymore anyway. What model year is you Jeep and when are you going to start selling kits?

Pfft, I am the law I can't say I've ever checked for a tow point on a car when doing an inspection. You're giving me ideas now. "No tow point? Defect"
Anything to piss off the scrotes.

Mine's a '13. I wish I could say I made the bracket myself, but I barely get time to scratch my arse. Got one of the road contractors who fix our cattle grids to do it for me. Just putting a few coats of paint on it now to curb the rust.

If I get me one of those fancy Uneek bullbars in a few months I may have this one going cheap. That'll all depend on whether I go overseas or not, which will depend on if I'm still in a relationship when the other half decides she's had enough space and starts talking to me again. Not sure what's going on there at the moment. Ah, young love
