Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Have just read the comments re no front recovery hooks on Jeep 2011 WK series, and have been searching for a year to find a solution. The parts supplier in WA told me they could now supply hooks - and I paid over $260 for a pair of......screw tow hooks, like the one supplied with the spare tyre! Still trying to get my money back.
It seems that there is no easy solution, but I heard that ARB makes a bullbar for this model which incorporates recovery points. An expensive solution if you don't need a bullbar. Does anyone have an update on the problem?

This is what you need......and it suits the modified front end on the export models we get. It is only for the left side.
Jeep WK Grand Cherokee Genuine Mopar Front Recovery Hook Part CH8220WKRH | eBay
The part is sold by Mopar, but the hook and bracket are made in New Zealand by Best Bars, the same company that does the Australian Mopar towbars. Northern Motor Group are Jeep dealers in Melbourne.
Studgun has fabricated a reversed bracket so he can fit a second hook to the right hand side.

You can certainly mount an argument for return of your money if they quoted "recovery hooks" - as the screw in tow eye is not rated for recovery according to Chrysler Australia - or maybe convince them to supply the part number quoted in lieu - it is the right one....

Yes you can over pay and get the most inappropriate hook made by 'best' in NZ for jeep Australia.

But i have one
Not only is it so far over priced it is only as far as know for the passenger side RHD but the design is inpractical.

Bu never fear i hea that an engineering shop on the Gold Coast are only about a few weeks away from their pre production model which i am lead to beleive will be cheaper and better

So hang in there as i am

Iwantanotherjeep - maybe you could post details of your attempt to fit the hooks to your MY14 here so or does not get lost in the general MY14 thread. I think lots of people will be interested.

No worries GMWK2,

After getting confirmation from Milous that we had the tow brackets for the Export MY14 I went and purchased the tow hooks from the USA. I got the dealer to try fit these but I received a phone call from the dealer saying that the front end is like the 12-13's and the tow hooks can't be fitted. They are looking into a solution to see if there is a work around. I haven't seen the front end with the lower fascia off so I'm only taking their word that it doesn't fit. On a side note they busted my front end so they I'm waiting on parts to get it fixed so I can pick it up.

Thanks iwantanotherjeep. I feel your pain.

So after numerous people saying that the recovery hooks COULD be fitted, here we are.

Hate to say I told you so, but it appears Jeep Aus really are that stupid, after the debacle with the MY12 looks like they have done it again.

And as usual the dealers have no idea,

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Unbelievable!!!

Somewhere in the 2014 Diesel Production thread, Milous states that 2014 diesel production does not start till 26 August. This is of course the US model with the more powerful EcoDiesel, piss tanks and two front recovery hooks. So that begs the question, what is it are selling us as MY14 Grands?

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

It really has to be asked if the Jeep is "fit for purposes" as a 4x4 if it does not come with recovery hooks. If anyone wanted to press the issue, would find Jeep in a difficult position as the vehicle cannot be recovered using the tow hook supplied and it would be assumed that recovery would be a requirement of a 4x4.

It would be interesting if anyone wanted to give it a crack under the ACLs

I'll keep poking away at this at a low level as I'm not directly effected at the moment, however it is having an impact on my thoughts about replacing my MY12 in six months or so.

What is needed to get Jeep Aus to take notice is for some MY14 customers to refuse to accept delivery or someone to head off to CTTT.

I can feel another letter to the editor of 4x4 Australia coming on....

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

the factory supplied tow eye is pointless, instruction say only use it for flat towing only. Although it is not illegal to flat tow there are so many conditions in NSW road rules one need to meet for flat towing plus it can be very dangerous. Personally I have never seen a vehicle been flat towed in NSW public roads.

After some investigation I figured a potential way around to fit Mopar/US style tow hooks. Replace the front bumper support bar with a support bar that has holes to secure the front end of the tow hook. This support bar must be the same part # used in 2011 GC or a Trailhawk GC. If this modification works / if its legal etc etc I donít know.
