Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

I have no need for them, just saying well done, very nice work.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Hi all.
Need some advice please.
In the absence of a tow hook (the new product from Chiefs looks good) how would you recover a MY14 from the front if I was stuck in sand?
I took off the plastic trim and tried the screw in hook. Would use this for a gentle straight pull I think - have others?
The chasis rail is clear through the plastic trim - could I wrap a rated chain around the chasis rail on one side and pass it through the plastic trim hole? It may distort the plastic bumper.
What about other attachment poins? Suspension components?
Off to Straddie for these school holidays and would like to know my options if a front pull is absolutely required.
I'm not hell bent on beach driving but if it took my fancy there I could be tempted to try out the quadralift and off road pack.... (I really bought the car as the best value for money towing platform).
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Andrew

You would need to claim on your insurance and order a new car.
I took off the plastic trim and tried the screw in hook. Would use this for a gentle straight pull I think - have others?
The person attempting to pull you out of the sand would be wearing that hook in the back window.
The chasis rail is clear through the plastic trim - could I wrap a rated chain around the chasis rail on one side and pass it through the plastic trim hole? It may distort the plastic bumper.
It would probably damage the plastic trim, and force you to have a wheel alignment.
What about other attachment poins? Suspension components?
Forget it.

If you have a towbar, get a recovery shackle and use that to recover the Jeep backwards.

Fantastic!
Will you have photos of these fitted to a my14?
I'd like to see an option for either black powder coat, chrome or black chrome.
Any idea of when these will be available?
Cheers

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Hey Guys,

It's great to hear all the positive responses. I'm hoping to have these available for everyone very soon. Once I have a prototype in hand, there are still a few steps before sale, (packaging, installation instructions, etc.), but we are anxious to get them onto everyone's WK2s as soon as possible.

As for colours, the options are like Henry Ford once said, "You can have any colour you want as long as it's black.".

Cheers,
Bill

So what does that say about the rear hook? Should that be replaced as well?

Personally I'm more than happy with black - function over form for me. If people want them chrome, or colour, you can sort that yourself.

And how many black Fords do you see today? Maxtrax were just high viz orange. Now they come in hot pink and even camo. Just joking, I'm happy with black. I might get them chromed myself some time down the track.

Wouldn't going offroad void insurance policies?

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Depends what you mean by off road. If the track you are on is a public road, in the legal sense, then it makes no difference. And your insurance covers you on private property too - otherwise you would not be covered in your own front yard. Most beaches you can drive on are still subject to normal road rules. But not all insurance policies are created equal. You need to check yours to see what it covers.

Also worth having a look at your roadside assist - does it cover you for remote areas?
