I've been quoted $620 for one hook on the passengers side from a dealer. Is this in the ball park?
I am going away for a few months shortly and would like something sorted before I go so it looks like my only option is a dealer fit unfortunately.

Complete rip off.

Jeep Aus are quoted in last months 4x4 Australia as noting the price, from memory as $270 I think (plus fitting). I could scan a copy of the page if you like - let me know.

Suggest you also ring JA and demand to know why one of their dealers is ripping off customers.

Global 4x4 & Performance fitted the Jeep Australia single hook to my 2014 GC today.
Its very similar to Studguns original hook http://www.jeepgarage.org/f12/wk2-ex...tml#post926396 - but a 2014 part number.
As you can see from the video a bow shackle can be neatly fitted to the (otherwise hopelessly narrow) hook to allow easy snatch or bow shackle fitment. The shackle fits the hook snugly and hinges smoothly, and has room to stow behind the cover plate when not in use.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Australia - Tow hook fitment - YouTube

Thanks to the guys at Global 4x4 who spent a fair bit of effort to get this workable solution - for 2014 models at least.

GMWK2 - please PM me or post the supplier details on the $270 hooks - many thanks.

PS
For those who followed my earlier posts on US Mopar #82212095, and the members responses, After trying to fit this part today with the Global 4x4 guys - I can confirm what has been said before - this part does not fit the 2014 model without significant cutting or bracketing mods, or replacing the from cross member with a US part or a winch bar member. It was a real time waster that the Jeep parts computer shows (to dealers) this part fitting all 2011-14 models - which started the wild goose chase.....again.

Benaldo
Is your hook in fact an eye ie closed? I thought the Jeep genuine articles were open hooks? What stops the D shackle falling off your hook? Am I missing something?

Its a HOOK.
The hook throat is soooo small it is useless to attach/disengage a snatch strap - but perfect to retain a 19mm shackle pin securely.
Look at the image I attached of STUDGUNS hooks and you will see what I mean.

Hook throat = ~16mm - the dome bolt also restricts things.
Pin dia = 19mm
see photos

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

D shackles on hooks = FUBAR in microseconds.

Maybe look for a more compatible equaliser strap. All of mine fit on these Jeep Australia / Best Bars (?) hooks just fine. For many years I've used a gently tightened cable tie to hold any strap on a hook that has no retaining spring.

Reason? If the recovered vehicle gains on the recovering vehicle momentarily, a strap can become unhooked or partially so. The chaos starts when the recovered vehicle again bogs down and the recovery arrangement re-tensions ... most probably in some state of disarray. I've seen straps which were pierced by the hook, then broken and possibly launched.

Add a shackle and anything can happen.

Oh, and always use two dampeners / recovery blankets.

Stay safe,
Steve

thanks Steve,
I just posted an edit & some photos which explain the security of the shackle better than words - it can't come off.

Hehehe... now I can't figure out how you get it all rigged up! Isn't that super fiddly to fit? Maybe you have man boy hands? Oh, that's me...

Jokes aside, I'm pleased that you're not going to maim or kill anyone who offers to recover you Though I still highly recommend not adding any compact mass to a recovery system unless really necessary. I'm just adding this in for general comment, as I do get why you're doing it.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve,
Its easy to fit when the under bumper fairing is off the car - as you fit the hook kit.
What brand extension strap do you have that fits this hook?
