Suggest you also ring JA and demand to know why one of their dealers is ripping off customers.

It was a real time waster that the Jeep parts computer shows (to dealers) this part fitting all 2011-14 models - which started the wild goose chase.....again.
Thanks for the update, that makes sense.

I have items I import published in Mags all the time.
It is quite frequent that they stuff up the pricing or some other important detail.

As such, I would take that $219 with a shovel of salt, until I got official confirmation from jeep Aus.

If they don't have any hooks, I'd look to try and source one from a jeep dealer (make sure you order the Australian one) and see if Murchison will do an install for you. Should be a lot less than $600..... I would guess.

It looks like Chief will be selling their hooks through Opposite Lock (not sure if all stores or just the Nerang one), but there is one in Caloundra, they may be able to do an install for you.....????

The Mopar Part number was AUSWK2014HOOK
(I cannot tell the difference between this part and CH8220WKRH - but there may be a difference.)

Thanks for the 4x4 Australia page.

Thanks - I'm going to go home and try the bow shackles I have in the same way and see if one will fit.

If they won't fit ill chase one up from Global.

Thanks again.

Maybe look for a more compatible equaliser strap. All of mine fit on these Jeep Australia / Best Bars (?) hooks just fine. For many years I've used a gently tightened cable tie to hold any strap on a hook that has no retaining spring.

Reason? If the recovered vehicle gains on the recovering vehicle momentarily, a strap can become unhooked or partially so. The chaos starts when the recovered vehicle again bogs down and the recovery arrangement re-tensions ... most probably in some state of disarray. I've seen straps which were pierced by the hook, then broken and possibly launched.

Add a shackle and anything can happen.

Oh, and always use two dampeners / recovery blankets.

Stay safe,
Steve
I agree! Under no circumstanced should you attempt a snatch with a shackle on a hook. You would be putting the recovery vehicle driver's life at risk. For a straight pull with a non-elastic strap, it may be OK but certainly not for snatching. Shackles should be avoided when snatching but if used, should be fitted through engineered closed loops only.

Hope it goes OK....
Just in case I did not clearly communicate the situation I found - the Mopar AUSWK2014HOOK hook I used securely retains a 4.75T 22mm shackle pin - it is captive. It cannot come off because the hook throat is smaller than the pin diameter by a few mm. It fits snuggly because the shackle throat,32mm, only just accepts the hook thickness. Naturally the pin must remain engaged in the shackle thread at all times so I will wire the pin eye & around the back of the hook & shackle assy as a fail safe measure.

I agree that a shackle pin which is not captive in an "eye" is a serious safety concern when snatching. However, please draw the distinction that the part I used is effectively an "open eye" (rather than a hook) when used with a 22mm dia min pin, as the pin remains captive.

PS
Apologies for the previous post incorrectly quoting the wrong pin size for a 4.75t bow shackle - it is 22mm. I will try to edit.
