Look at the image I attached of STUDGUNS hooks and you will see what I mean.

Hook throat = ~19mm - the dome bolt also restricts things.
4.75 t bow shackle Pin dia = 22mm

Benaldo the Edwards 4WD Products / Commercial Sewing equaliser is the best I have, followed by an Opposite Lock Mean Green sling style strap. The key is low bulk at the eye, so attachment is easy and positive.

As far as i can see, there is absolutely no issue with the Jeep Australia hooks on a MY14... except the prices I see bouncing around. Yikes!

Cheers,
Steve

Steve,
Many thanks for the shots and strap info which really helps illustrate your set up. Your blue strap ends are compact, and the access holes are bigger in the 2014. Also I like the "easy to see" hook colour.

How easy is it to get the blue strap off the hook after use?

Just need to remember there is legislation in Qld as well as the commonwealth now days as to the sale, and safe selection of a suitable strap and its safe use

We should not buy straps form overseas supplies as these would not comply with the laws

Need to check the laws out

Yeah "someone" painted them red... and I figured if I recoated in black there would end up being red speckles all over them. So I went with the flow...

The Edwards bridle comes off "easy as bro", but the Mean Green is just slightly harder as it's not at all rigid. I think the Mean Green was really expensive too?

That Edwards strap has done heaps of work and I recommend it highly especially in this application.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Hi everybody

While you Guys in OZ still wait for some Tow Hooks, I've got some brackets fabricated to mount the OEM Hooks to my '12 GC european spec (same front as OZ).

Tools needed for mounting the OEM tow hooks are:
- Hooks ordered on Amazon
- 2 Brackets made from 1cm / 2cm thick steel
- cutting a small part of the front "cross member" (or how do you call that thing?)
- an afternoon of time

Pics see below, if you've got questions feel free to ask.

Cheers from Switzerland

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Hey!

We did a test fitting for Chief Products Recovery Hooks, Recovery Points & Sump Protection Plate yesterday on various model WK2s. Everything bolted up exactly as it should on all models tested. Installation was extremely easy. I'm sure everyone following this thread will be happy to know, we start production next week.

If you'd like to know more or see a few photos, check out this thread (Need WK2s for Product Test Fitting (Gold Coast & Brisbane)).

Cheers,
Bill

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Hi Folks,

I have a newby question, so feel free to slap me.

If the JGC does not come with front recovery hooks and you break down how do they get it on the tow truck, I wouldnt want them slinging around the underneath of the car ???

Cheers

Ah they just chain up to the lower control arms.

No. There's an eye which screws in behind a knock out in the front bumper ;-)

Cheers,
Steve

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

So what's the deal with the "factory" front recovery hooks on this overland (I thought only the Trailhawk had them?)
