Most 4WD people and places say you should have a recovery point rated to 10,000 lbs or 4-4.5 tonne

Dissapointed*that*your*2011-2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee didn't come with a set of front tow hooks? Well now you can do something about that,*with this genuine Mopar*BLACK front tow hook accessory.*What you get is a pair of the front black tow hooks, hardware, and a simple how to installation instruction sheet. Securely mounted to the frame, these tow hooks are rated for 5,500 pounds, or 1.5 times the vehicles GVWR (depending on model).*Chances are you will be glad you have them at some point when you least suspect it.**
Scott, this item doesn't show all the hook body but I have seen the same (looked the same anyway) item elsewhere on a Jeep accessory site - the view it showed had the front wings on the hook that bolted through the 2011 model cross member holes. To me that means it still won't fit ours.
The US Wk2's don't get the 30 diameter hole brackets that are already bolted up in the 2012 Aus ones. These brackets are what the 2012 eye screws into.
If Jeep are prepared to stand by the statement the eye is approved for off road recovery then I'll go with that until a better option comes up...
I'm also interested in whether there is one bracket on each side on our models.
John

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

The below extract was just posted on Facebook and Jeep finally replied 6 minutes ago

I took delivery of my 2012 Grand Cherokee on 23/1 and its a great piece of gear - BUT...

You may be aware that the 2012 model is being delivered without front recovery hooks contrary to when I ordered the vehicle in September 2011. In addition it came with "All Season" tyres rather than AT. The front of the 2012 chassis has been changed from the 2011 model and the tow hooks will not simply bolt on.

The issue of the tow hooks is turning into a major issue for Chrysler with many customer complaints and no easy solution. I've made numerous attempts through the dealer and Chrysler Aust to find out what is going on, but Chrysler are no longer returning my calls and have gone to ground. The dealer seems to be in the dark. Without the tow hooks, the GC is unrecoverable.

I have now written a formal complaint letter and sent it to the Chrysler GM, Dept Fair Trading and anyone else I could think of and Im trying to get in touch with 4x4 Aust Magazine to see if they can apply some pressure.

The upshot is that if you are expecting delivery of a GC, my advice is DO NOT TAKE DELIVERY if the tow hooks are not fitted. In hindsight I should have checked better, but mine was so shinny and new and I couldn't wait to take it for a spin.

I think the only way to get Chrysler to move on this issue is to vote with your feet and do not order or take delivery of a GC until this issue is solved.

Jeep Australia Dear Greg,

We are really sorry for the aggravation this has caused you. Chrysler head office is currently working on the issue and will hopefully be able to offer you a solution soon.

If you would like to discuss the matter with us further please contact marketingau@chrysler.com

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

I guess that Jeep have a real winner of a car and people who cancel their orders based on this issue will be minimal. Myself I would not cancel as sand driving is all I would ever do or tear around on my mates farm on wet grass. While I think it is very poor form of JeepAU for not responding for some time over this problem, I do not think it would affect sales to greatly. For every cancelled order over this problem I would think there would be 5 people who would jump a a chance to get into their JGC earlier. I was quoted August delivery on a Limited or Overland CRD last week. I just hope that Jeep sort this mess out for everyone who have a 2012 delivered or on the boat.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Just received an email from my Jeep dealer advising they have had further communication from Chrysler that advises the previous bulletin that stated the tow eye suitable for off road recovery may not be correct. I was also advised that Chrysler is aware of the issue and my dealer has several buyers that need a resolution as there is an affiliation with the local Jeep Club where several members have ordered new WK2's for off road use.
regards Scott

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Yes it is...No it isnt...Yes it is...No it isnt.....Yes it maybe .....
I think Jeep Oz really have a problem with their organisation. I wonder if it really is a part of Chrysler/Jeep, or simply a local importer trading under their name.
It really does sound like an amateurish company whatever the setup is.
For example, from what the dealers have told me, they are not allowed to order GC's unless they have the name of a buyer. There is to be no stock allowed to sit around the showrooms. The stock you do see is cancelled orders for buyers who got tired of waiting.
Also, I heard that Jeep Oz made a deal with the parent company to settle USD against AUD at $0.95c. Therefore, while the Aussie $ is over 0.95USD, Jeep Oz is making money on the exchange.
How much of the above is true? Who knows...... Whatever, I think there is more fact in my rumours than Jeep's broadcast messages to dealers.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

It is pretty standard to arrange forward exchange pricing for importers. When I was importing, we would need to secure the finance and exchange rate anywhere up to 6 months. As cars cost a lot, I would expect them to do annual exchange rates to ensure pricing stability. What is a joke is the lack of clarification as to these towhooks.
I would not like to be the one who needed to snatch my Jeep out of mud and have it break and send a hook and snatch strap back at 1000km/h

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

There is an update on the Jeep Australia Facebook site that shows some promise:
"Jeep Australia Thank you very much for your enquiry. As you noted, the front recovery tow hook of the Grand Cherokee is not fitted to model year 2012 variants. To ensure we are able to respond to customers who require front recovery towing hooks, our Parts and Accessories division is currently developing a part suitable for fitment to the vehicle. We expect the part to be available in the near future and will contact relevant customers at the appropriate time. Thanks."

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Thanks BobT, I have followed up with my Dealer (took delivery of my Overland 10 days ago) and asked them to contact Jeep Australia. Just want to ensure that Jeep Australia know how many "relevant" customers are out here! Regards Don

"Parts and Accessories"? Somehow I don't think they'll be provided free of charge then...
