Man - you are good. Very very warm but not a Colarado.

And I agree, not the greatest recovery points but miles better than the jeep effort i.e. nothing...

Care to have another guess?

Still not quite - it is a Mu x. But I'm mighty impressed you got so close.

Gold star.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

I think I'd prefer to have no recovery hook than that dodgy thing. Doesn't look like it is rated.

Looks too small to be a certified recovery point
More like a tow or tie down point
Most that are welded like that are not recovery points.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Well I'm shocked, according to this clip those hooks are rated at 1500kg @1:30:

I see it, but I don't believe it! Anyway, a bit off course now.

When I get a break from work I'm going to head down to MtGravatt and have a look at the overland they have with tow hooks. If they do fit to the latest MY14s I'm not sure if I should go with the original Jeep hooks or Bill's hooks. His do 'look' a bit stronger....

If they are indeed rated at 1500 kgs then note to self Never recover them

The vehicle is well over 1500kgs and if bogged this weight increases substantially.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Yes, that may well be 1500kg limit, not safe working load, but there are 2 of them, so you could split the load as per the previous equaliser strap discussion.

But I think if I was to look under the front end of a car that needed a snatch and saw those I'd say sorry, start digging....

Yep, ease the restriction on the vehicle and a gentle tow if necessary. More than half of the webbing straps I used to carry were winch extension / tow straps due to the amount of ill-equipped vehicles experienced.

People are often quite annoyed when you tell them it's this method rather than a snatch. I packed my shit up and drove off on more than one occasion.

Cheers,
Steve
