If only they had done this back in 2012 it would have saved so much hassle. Although we would not now have the brilliant Chief hooks. Anyway, the Chief hooks look much stronger than the Mopar hooks. We know that the Chief hooks are engineered for snatching but not sure about the Mopar hooks. I'm not sure that in the States they fully understand the concept of snatching.

2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo 3L CRD, Uneek4x4 bull bar, Murchison Products Suspension Lift
When I picked up my car last week, I asked the salesman about the lack of hooks, he said it was due to ADR the hooks weren't compliant. I think this was the official response from JA and he was just repeating it. He went on to say they had built the hook for one side that sat in behind the bumper so it was compliant.

I told him the story I understood, that the EU build had shorter front horns for pedestrian safety and the cross member was bent back so the hooks didn't fit. And that the few cars that have been available with hooks lately were NZ cars which came from the US line.

He agreed the cars with hooks were a one off shipment that were originally meant for NZ, so that adds up.

The ADR excuse doesn't hold water, if it was true, then they wouldn't have ever been able to sell cars with hooks, which they did. Besides, there are thousands of cars with nudge bars, bull bars and brackets for spotties/UHF ant/etc that are apparently non-compliant to ADR.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

The story is bull
Its just JA does not want to admit liability as they fear that all of us who did not get front recovery points will sue them.
As for their so call Fix it sucks and its way too dear
If you fit it and use it most likely you will pull the Bumper bar off the vehicle.

Just more lies and Bull from JA.

Settle down tiger. That's quite alarmist and not based on any engineering assessments or anecdotal events.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

If you like the hidden look, and think you can get by with one hook, then the JA option isn't a bad one. Last trip to straddie I only used the maxtrax, a lot easier than arranging someone to snatch me out. I may never use the Chief hooks.....

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

That's possibly the best recovery breakage photo I've seen Wade. Fark'n'ell

Interesting that it's broken along the thread... reports generally suggest that the ball breaks off at the neck?

Anyway, you generally get what you sign up for... funny that you still see guys with forum stickers on their rides slipping the bloody strap over their tow ball. It's like the message to never do it is in code or something...

I took some photos of the cherokee trailhawk at my local dealer - big red recovery points front and rear. Both protrude beyond the bumper.

So I assume these do not comply with ADR, or maybe a batch from NZ?

While I waiting for my ride I asked the sales dude why the cherokee had recovery points and the GC did not. He told me that the GC could be fitted with recovery hooks - showed me the brochure. 100% guaranteed he said!

On it goes....
