Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

These are the pics of the chromies installed. When we get a bright sunny day I might take another one to show them off better. The first pic shows the Chief Products recovery hook next to that puny afterthought of a hook that Jeep Australia offered us. BTW, the Chief hook is Engineer Certified at 3,750kg SWL whereas Jeep Aust. claim their hook is good for 4,500kg max load whatever "max load" means. Someone is pulling someone's leg here.

For those trying to convince the missus, the hooks stick out about 50mm beyond the plastic but well inside the line of the number plate. Painted black, they won't even be noticed, at least not by women.

Now back to the topic, are there any pics of the Chief Recovery Hooks fitted to the MY14 GC.
Do the Hooks and the Point components extend out the same length?
As recommended by a couple of members I want a pair of Hooks, however the minister for finance and domestic affairs is not sure how far they will stick out from the front of the new vehicle and is concerned that they may look like a cheep add on..
Any nice pics to help me sell the idea of a pair of Hooks much appreciated...

Cheers
Mark
Here are the pics from the test fitting:

In black they shouldn't be all that noticeable....

Hi MMAG4x4,

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of them installed on a MY14 GC yet. I have plans of posting photos on the website of all our products installed, but there are a few things on the list ahead of that, so it might be a little while. Maybe one of the members here will post some pics.

To answer your questions:
1. The hooks and points extend out about the same distance, (within a few mm).
2. They extend through the opening in the air dam just enough to easily attach recovery gear, but they do not stick out past the front edge of the bumper.

They're powder coated black just like the stock hooks on USA models, and stick out about the same distance. So if the minister is ok with the looks of the USA model stock hooks, she should be happy with these.

Shoot me a message if you have any other questions, I'm always happy to help.

Cheers,
Bill

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Ive been doing a little background work in trying to get to the bottom of the few Overlands that have been spotted with twin Chrome recovery hooks. Here is the reply I received from the powers that be :

The hooks you reference in the car sales link are not available for Australian spec vehicles.
There was a small number of vehicles that came via New Zealand that were initially not intended for Australia.
These vehicles may have the hooks as per the picture.

The mounting points for these hooks are not available on Australian spec vehicles, this is why we have had a local solution created.
The solution for Australian spec vehicles is the part number supplied in my previous email.
This is the reason the hooks you are referring to are not available on your Australian spec vehicle.
There are part numbers available for the referenced hooks however they are not suited and cannot be mounted to your vehicle.

Our local parts designed for our vehicles have been created in line with our local Australian design standards.
I have made inquiries with our parts marketing team and the chrome finish is something we can and will work with our supplier to achieve.

So it would appear that it is OK for JA to bring in cars that do not meet Aus design rules.

Don't believe a word of it myself.

re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Solution help

New Zealand cars? Wouldn't they have come from the same export production line as the Oz and Euro cars? And wouldn't they have the same front cross member arrangement? Sounds like a strange story. Anyway, I think the Chief product looks better in any case.

If what they say is True then JA have no interest in their customer base
Also appears on the face of i that vehicles coming via NZ would not be in line with Aust standards
JA need to wake up and change their attitude if they want to retain current customer list
But i doubt they care

The rambling nature of this email is the work of an idiot... or possibly a team of idiots.

Embarrassing.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Armstrong Prestige in Christchurch appear to have tow hooks on their vehicles across the variants. Pics are: Limited, Overland and Laredo.

Armstrong Motor Group

Armstrong Motor Group

Sounds like some clueless person at CJD Australia didn't tick that particular box when thinking about what needed to be included for the Oz Market.

I might get my father to swing by Armstrongs if he has time and have a chat with the guys about whether the tow hook is a standard on NZ vehicles.

I was in Enzeed in January and saw heaps of GC with the recovery hooks. I agree that the email is ridiculous - if the hooks really are not compliant why can MY11, trailhawk and some overlands have them, but not others????

I don't really care about this anymore as Chief have solved the problem. Just doin it for the sport.

I don't think they are saying the hooks are not compliant, I think they are saying that the NZ spec has the different front end cross member arrangement that allows the hooks to be fitted. Going by SJandL's post, it looks like this may be correct, NZ spec cars have the front end that allows the hooks to be fitted. Are the NZ cars built on the US assembly line, and the Oz cars built on the European line? Strange if so.

Anyway, this seems to explain why we've been seeing hooks on some MY14s. Still makes no sense that the NZ cars and Oz cars are from different assembly lines, I'd have thought they would both come from the export assembly line..... strange.
