My wife was pretty happy to have the Chief hook - makes her feel more confident that if we get bogged it will be much easier to use than the old stupid JA hook we've had the last couple of years. So it is a wife approved part.

Outstanding!! A wife approved part..
Hope you don't mind me using that line for my certification process....
Will order a pair, as I like things symmetrical.
I also have been thinking if the removed cover panel can be cut in away that allows it to be refitted leaving only about 2mm clearance around the hook.
Just trying to reduced the size of the opening.
Anyone looked at that option?

I think it looks better without the cover. Think of it as a brake cooling duct. You could always cable tie in a piece of ducting behind the openning and direct it at the brakes, not that they need additional cooling . See the pic (not a Jeep).

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Hmmm. Not sure about the duct work mod.
If you removed the hook will the cover clip back in or is it manufactured in a way that once removed that's it?
I like the look of the Chief products, but confused why I don't see Mopar hooks on their Australian E-store. Thought this would be a common accessory.
The US sites have them, but some advise they will not fit export models..
Not sure why they would be different.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Short story, the MY14 Mopar hooks don't fit Aussie delivery Grands. Long story is available by reading back... it's quite an epic and probably no longer interesting given the short story, plus the availability of another (two!) solutions.

The covers really don't lend themselves to being refitted. I think you'd find decent puddles would push them out again if you tweaked them for removal from the front. In their original condition they are clipped such that removal from the rear is essential... well, unless you like damaging plastics.

Cheers,
Steve

So confused now..
Before reading your post tonight, I rang the our dealer today and asked for a price on a pair of front Hooks for my 2014 Jeep on order.
He had a pair in stock for $365.00. I asked will they fit and the answer was yes.
That said, I have more faith in the info here than dealers.

I'll wait till the car gets here in 5 more months and see what's on the market at the time.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Mate they could be the Jeep Australia ones that were stopgap developed for the MY11-13 years. They actually fit the MY14 better, though for the money you'd be better off with the Chief... especially as you can only fit to one side without additional expense.

These are the Jeep Australia hooks I bought off Rhys:

He said a pair - if they are a pair, they wont fit.

If it is a single, for the passenger side - that will fit.

MMAG4X4 - if you get the part number from the dealer I will be able to tell what it is.

2011-2013 XAU008220WKRH - SINGLE HOOK PASSENGER SIDE TO SUIT NUDGE BAR
2011-2013 XAU008220WKH - SINGLE HOOK PASSENGER SIDE
2014 AUSWK14HOOK - SINGLE HOOK PASSENGER SIDE

if your dealer has a pair - he might have the old MY11 version.

Yep, this has been a repeated mistake, dealer says they will fit, orders them in, and they don't fit. Benaldo's dealer was going to drill some holes in the cross member to make them fit, but once it was up on the hoist and airdam off, it was clear that they still wouldn't fit. Here are what the original US recovery hook pair look like:

If it is the single hook then it may be the Jeep Australia hook, and it will fit, but it sits way back behind the air dam, making it hard to access, and tow/snatch straps may contact with the bumper. And you can fit only one, the bracket doesn't fit on the other side.

Here is a pic of the Jeep Australia single recovery hook compared to the Chief Products recovery hook:

Are the NZ cars built on the US assembly line, and the Oz cars built on the European line? Strange if so. Anyway, this seems to explain why we've been seeing hooks on some MY14s. Still makes no sense that the NZ cars and Oz cars are from different assembly lines, I'd have thought they would both come from the export assembly line..... strange.
If the NZ cars were built on the US assembly line wouldn't they end being Left hand drive !!!
