I saw this on the news the other day. It sounds like the P plater who got stuck was the one who was injured. And the shackle must have remained attached to the strap, so presumably something broke on the car that stopped to help.

That guy will be feeling pretty crap if that was the case.....

edit: some more detail, they were recovering from the rear.

I know it is an old thread, however this incident highlights the need for proper recovery training. It is highly likely a recovery damper was not used or not correctly placed. Still very unfortunate.

Looks good indeed, my question is the US model has the front 2 bolts threaded into essentially the impact protection bar which will strengthen the tow hook and distribute any side load across the chassis rails. I wonder if the early first Gen and the MY14 that comes with OEM tow hook (I have seen some MY14 Overlands with OEM tow hooks) have a different impact bar?

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

G'day all. I need some updated information if someone can help. I'm awaiting delivery of my new Overland, and the dealer is fitting a recovery hook to the front. I'm wondering what hook it will be. I know we can't transfer the hook from our old MY12 Overland. I've read every post in this thread but still can't work out which hook it will be. All replies will be appreciated.

Sounds like it will be the Aus Jeep hook:

It fits to one side and sits back behind the bumper. Some don't like that it sits so far back, but you can fit a shackle to it to extend it a bit.

I reckon there is a good chance the MY12 tow hook will fit if you fit the MY12 impact protection bar across to the MY16 also. However as I have not seen both and cannot be sure.

If you are hoping for something better than the cheapest, it ain't gonna happen! But good luck anyway

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Why not just ask them what they're fitting? If you don't like it, you could still negotiate a contribution towards what you want.

I have two of the AusJeep hooks, one of them on a bracket fab'd by a contact of long-time member Studgun. Whilst I can see the shortcomings, they're entirely workable for me.

Cheers,
Steve
