Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

"Why not just ask them what they're fitting?"

Well, if I could get an informed reply I'd ask again. But like most dealers they don't have much experience with hooks and so far are thinking they'll find one that fits. I hope they're right. And the salesman insists that my MY12 is a WK. He assures me the WK2 came about in 2013 with the introduction of the 8 speed box. I'm not looking to them for expertise, just a new vehicle.
So I suppose, whatever hook they fit, whether it's concealed behind the cover, or sticking out, I'll be satisfied never to have to use it.

Why are they fitting it if you don't want it? The hook ain't cheap, about $500 from memory.

Well actually I do want a hook, just for security. Hope I never have to use it.
Latest news is one of the dealer people quoting me a price, and another saying there's no part number for a hook to fit a MY15. But I suppose I'm just curious to find out what other dealers have fitted to MY15 and whether it will fit behind the plastic cover in the bumper or stick out like the Chief products.

I got the RRO winch bar and the Jeep hooks for less than $1000 landed in Sydney , its good value even if you don't get a winch as it ties together the 2x front horns with some heavy duty steel and allows use of the US recovery hooks.

I know we can't transfer the hook from our old MY12 Overland. I've read every post in this thread but still can't work out which hook it will be. All replies will be appreciated.
When our 2012 was originally delivered it was one of the first to arrive without the front tow hook (when the front structure was changed to comply with Euro specs and the US hook would no longer fit).
Jeep AU had a hook made by Best Bars in NZ and this certainly had a Mopar part number.
I had this hook supplied by my dealer after I kicked up a bit of a fuss……..and it was used once!

Now we have just taken delivery of a 2015 Laredo and I can assure you that the hook I took from our 2012 went straight onto the 2015 LH front - fits exactly the same and behind the cover like before.

And from your posts it seems like your dealer hasn't a clue.
John

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Thanks to all who've taken the time to help. Information is power when dealing with the Jeep dealers.
Particular thanks to John47 who has been through exactly the same situation I'm going through now. I still have my MY12 with hook attached, so when the new one arrives I'll ask the service blokes at the dealership to demonstrate to my why they think it won't fit. Chances are they haven't even looked even though I gave them the car for a few days so they could check.
Thanks again all of you.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

After a bit more research i found the original listing for the Mopar hook (which is now defunct - the listing that is - on ebay - the part number will still be valid) - from another front hook thread. $520 for a Recovery Hook

Jeep WK Grand Cherokee GENUINE Mopar Front Recovery Hook Part: CH8220WKRH | eBay

Another small point that came out ages ago is that if you get a tow bar fitted not all dealer workshops refit the original recovery hook at the rear - worth making the point beforehand.
If a Hayman Reese towbar is used the rear hook cannot be refitted.

Dealers know nothing about this stuff. As John47 said the one from your 12 will fit.

Your dealer is dead wrong. Get him to have a look at this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_G...okee_%28WK2%29 but anyone that knows anything about Jeeps has always knows that WK2's first came in in 2011. If John says that the MY12 hook fits the MY15 then it does, no question.

Can you post a pic of the existing hook you have? Does it look like these?

Or this

The first one will NOT fit on a MY15 (unless it is one that was built for NZ and they sent over here instead, has happened before). The 2nd one is the one made by best bars for the Oz Grand Cherokees, part no. CH8220WKRH, it should fit the MY15.

LOL, to be totally accurate, there is no such thing as a WK2, the 2011-2015 models are technically designated WK. Apparently Chrysler decided not to change the model designation up to WL during development to avoid suppliers becoming aware and leaking that a new model was about to be released. The public decided to add a 2 to it to differentiate, it is thought it originated from this site.

This is the hook I referenced above, is what I have, and definitely fits the 2015 - well the Laredo anyway - goes behind the cover on the LH side and is normally hidden.
Can't see why it wouldn't fit a 2015 Overland.
