I've seen this sort of thing in Asia where I'm guessing this is. The dominant philosophy there seems to be, have car, will drive. The capability of the car and the condition of the road is quite irrelevant.

I think we all agree that if doing a lot of remote off-roading alone, then a winch is essential. However, for most of us, recovery hooks are a very cost/effective alternative.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

For those who like a bit of feedback, my problem was with the dealer who didn't believe the hook could be taken from the 2012 Overland and fitted to the 2015 Overland.
Well as John pointed out, it can, and indeed it has been, but not by the dealer. Those experts tried every trick in the book to avoid this little job that was part of the contract of sale. They even took the new Overland in and kept it for 45 mins before bringing it back explaining that they couldn't make it fit. To use their words "we tried but it just doesn't fit".
So I took the car home and fitted it myself. Someone had told porkies. They hadn't tried at all. They'd looked in through the plastic cover in the bumper, got confused, and decided it was too hard.
I'm thinking 'The Blokes from the Bush' should go back to the bush and let Newcastle get an honest dealer. Needless to say my next car (which will be a new Alfa for my wife) won't be coming from this dealership.
Anyway, back to the present, my thanks to the members of this forum who are quick to support each other, and who in most things, know infinitely more than the dealer mechanics.

Got some photos of how you have fitted the hooks to your Overland?

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Sorry, no photos.
The hook is the standard hook as fitted to Australian Jeeps in 2012. They were made in NZ because America didn't have a suitable one. I doubt it would be possible to get one from Jeep now because the factory has provided one (albeit an ugly one!)

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

Got it - you are referring to the AUSHOOK (that some here had a lot to do with it's developed ) , not the USA style.

And you are right about the dealers having no idea.

As Hutch said:
wk2 grand cherokee tow hooks
WK2 Recovery Hook | Chief Products
WK2 Recovery Point | Chief Products

I prefer the chief open hook, because you don't need a bow shackle, just slide the strap on.

Re: No tow hooks? Front Recovery Soluition help

So, I just called a Jeep dealer here in Perth and the guy in the parts department was quite sure that part #82212095 ($348.55, in stock) would fit my 2012 Grand Cherokee according to his system..

This seems to contradict everything I've read online, although it does seem that since the Uneek & Chief options came on the market that the default response has been "buy those instead."

Does anyone know if perhaps the hook/mounting design has been revised to allow for fitment to the Australian models or does the dealer simply have an absolutely useless part sitting on their shelf and incorrect information in their system? (he got the details off the computer, based on my telling him I had a 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo with no front sensors.. so I assume that means his computer is telling him this should fit)
