Agree totally. Good if we could get the dimensions...there's got to be something close to or identical to the MOPAR...made in China no doubt...after all. its only a 5micron paper cartridge. I'd also try Western Filters too. Eddie over there is very helpful.

Bob's points are valid for ALL diesels, but the Jeep isn't a gold plated difference! The 20 odd year old Nissan design even located the filter where it was easy to service!!! How's that for forward thinking!!!

While the Jeep is on the hoist for a regular service it shouldn't take $115 worth of labour to drop the filters and replace the elements. Ours doesn't have a skid plate - the filter cover can be readily accessed.

i know it was my choice to have the filters replaced early but you can deduce I believe I was simply ripped off.
I'm not a happy camper......
John
If it took them any more than 10 minutes (with GC on a hoist, I could do it in 10 minutes with out a hoist ) to crack and drain the orange fuel drain plug, undo, remove the old fuel filters and replace with new filters, then they should not be allowed in a work shop!.
$115 for 10 minutes work, I want that pay rate!!!!.
I would go back to the dealer and get them to justify that amount for labour, it's a complete rip off!!!!!.

The service clerk certainly did get my message that I was very unhappy with the pricing for this part of the service........HOWEVER - I am very concious of not burning bridges as far as my relationship with the dealer goes.
I have requested that the headlights be replaced under warranty due to the DRL fogging and that is still outstanding pending approval from Chrysler.
Who knows what other little expensive gremlins might lurk in the future too?

I really don't want the dealership staff to suck air past their teeth when they see me coming.

it's like - bend over this barrel.........take your turn after our other Jeep, Hyundai and VW customers.......

Hi John,
You don't have to be rude about it, just question how/why it took their tech 1 hour to do a job that should only take 10 minutes ?,
I keep my dealer honest, if something does not seem right I question them on it!, I am polite to the service staff, and give them a chance to explain, if they start to lie to me I call them out and then give them a chance to correct their "story".
The staff at the 1 and only dealer in Darwin know me now, and know that if they are honest with me, I will be polite and helpful to them, if they lie or try to rip me off I will call them out on it and won't leave until we get things sorted,
If you let the dealer get away with ripping you off, they will continue to do it!, if you call them out on it, they will give up trying to rip you off and you will end up with a better relationship, just be polite, but firm.
Yoda

Re: Now its fuel filter prices!!!

GDay Yoda - yep it's a balancing act.....
I have had a few experiences as well that weren't all that positive with your local Jeep/Nissan dealer over the years (all related to issues of poor workmanship and attitude, but perhaps things have improved), so I'm not sure I want to swap dealers with you.

I've provided feedback to my dealer service manager so we'll see what happens down the track.

Certainly when it comes time for others to have fuel filters replaced it may pay to get an indicative price first, and if Bob's group buy for the elements can achieve reasonable pricing that will be a bonus.
In the meantime the Westfil locally available filters are an option.
John

Re: Now its fuel filter prices!!!

As a follow up and to the dealership's credit I had a call today from the service manager - upshot is he agreed that the labour price of $115 for the filter replacement wasn't right. He also agreed that Jeep need to look at the filter element pricing - but that is out of his domain.

As a result of our conversation the labour charge will be credited against a future service.

He also offered trade pricing on consumables and spares relating to service work carried out down the track.
A good outcome as far as I am concerned and a tick from me for him being proactive.
John

Nice to see a dealer doing the right thing by their customer for once, make sure you hold them to what they offered, I was offered a free service after that the service manager would not take my calls, I now do my own servicing, it's safer for my family!!!.

Re: Now its fuel filter prices!!!

Further report......in the mail today we received a note from the dealer principal acknowledging the service issue and affirming better results in the future.
Attached were 2 tickets to the next Titans home game. (the stadium is about 3k from where we live so it won't be a problem to attend).
I've been quick to publish criticism and positive, prompt action by the dealer deserves to be recognised.
