We are heading to the Simpson in a month or so and as the Jeep has just clocked 30K and time for the service I intend to get the fuel filters changed early, just to go with new filters.
Alarmed by a post from Swampy in another thread noting he had paid $125 ea for 2 filters I rang our local dealer to check.
Quoted $140.65 each! - and that'll be $281.30 for the 2 that are required thanks!!
To and fro for a bit then the best they would do is $242 total.

This is the initial oil filter pricing all over again!

I do carry in the back for emergencies 2 Westfil WCF203 fuel filters I sourced from Eziautoparts for $29.25 ea (and with a smile).
How can there possibly be such a difference in the pricing?? Yeah - i do know the response to that....

I'll go with the genuine ones for this change - but I've already gone to Westfil air filter and cabin filter.

Chrysler Australia are doing NOTHING to inspire brand loyalty - a great vehicle undermined by shortsighted decisions in my opinion.

Does the fuel filter require replacement? A lot of cars over the passed couple of decades have been using permanent fuel filters. The Owner's Manual for the 2014 makes no mention of them at all.

I would just go the Wesfil units. If they are made to be compatible, there would be no reason not to use them. I sure will be when mine are due to be replaced.

Agree totally. Good if we could get the dimensions...there's got to be something close to or identical to the MOPAR...made in China no doubt...after all. its only a 5micron paper cartridge. I'd also try Western Filters too. Eddie over there is very helpful.

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_maintenance.htm shows the fuel filter as Mopar part # 4726067AA. You should be able to get two genuine filters for about $100 from Factory Mopar Parts . Their system quotes $28.75USD each plus $43.50 international postage but they often have to revise their postage. Delivery in about two weeks. Not a bad idea to carry spares. I once had a fuel filter totally clogged by crap in bad fuel I picked up in Boulia, SW Queensland.

How about it guys?

Right, the 30k service has just been completed.......and the fuel filters replaced as a bit more security.
Invoiced at $115 labour to change, plus $113.35 each for the fuel filters ($226.70). GSTax on top again.
Total just for this bit of the service inc GST = $375.21
On my previous Patrols I did the job myself in 15 minutes to change the one filter - and they were priced at $35 for genuine Nissan. Hmmmmm.
Plenty of incentive to get a bit more familiar with this vehicle - but the location of the filters under the vehicle doesn't make it real friendly. Certainly will make it interesting if ever we strike a very cold snap and encounter summer diesel clogging the filters.....had that once years ago at Cradle Mountain in Tas on Boxing Day - required swapping the filter to get the Patrol going.

I haven't seen these filters but they are listed as "Fuel/water separator filter". This implies that the filters themselves perform water searation so there is some logic in having them at a low point. As you probably know, water in petrol might stop the engine but water in diesel can cause serious damage. Apparently we get a warning if there is water in the system. Then we have to get under the car with a large phillips head and unscrew the drain plug. It's probably a good idea to give it a go before heading bush.

JustForJeeps are putting together a group buy deal for us. I'll keep you informed.

GDay Yoda - yep it's a balancing act.....
I have had a few experiences as well that weren't all that positive with your local Jeep/Nissan dealer over the years (all related to issues of poor workmanship and attitude, but perhaps things have improved), so I'm not sure I want to swap dealers with you.

I've provided feedback to my dealer service manager so we'll see what happens down the track.

Certainly when it comes time for others to have fuel filters replaced it may pay to get an indicative price first, and if Bob's group buy for the elements can achieve reasonable pricing that will be a bonus.
In the meantime the Westfil locally available filters are an option.

As a follow up and to the dealership's credit I had a call today from the service manager - upshot is he agreed that the labour price of $115 for the filter replacement wasn't right. He also agreed that Jeep need to look at the filter element pricing - but that is out of his domain.

As a result of our conversation the labour charge will be credited against a future service.

He also offered trade pricing on consumables and spares relating to service work carried out down the track.
A good outcome as far as I am concerned and a tick from me for him being proactive.

Good result John.

Further report......in the mail today we received a note from the dealer principal acknowledging the service issue and affirming better results in the future.
Attached were 2 tickets to the next Titans home game. (the stadium is about 3k from where we live so it won't be a problem to attend).
I've been quick to publish criticism and positive, prompt action by the dealer deserves to be recognised.

John, this rare gentleman dealer mate of yours deserves to be named don't you think?

#25 ·
I wouldn't exactly call the service manager a mate - but as I have stated a few times I believe it is in our best interest to have a good working relationship.
The dealership is Frizelles at South Tweed. The same group has Southport and Lismore.

Peter of JustForjeeps has put together a group buy package for us Aussies, see Australia Jeep Garage Group Buy . Unfortunately, there is a major delay with the fuel filters. They will not be available till end June at the earliest. My guess is that with the ramp up in production of the CRD for the American market, any item unique to the CRD will be is short supply for some time. At least this time it is not the fault of Fiat Chrysler Aust.

With the freight and all it was hard to make it viable so we put together a major service package with all but the oil. In consists of 2 fuel filters and one each of oil, air and cabin filter and an oil drain washer. With freight to Oz via Bongo, it comes to $280.11USD (about $270AUD). This is about the cost of two fuel filters alone from Aussie dealers. Note that these are genuine Mopar parts. That doesn't mean that they necessarily perform better but that that they have a higher level of quality assurance. Note one needs to choose either the 2011-2013 or 2014+ oil filter. They are different as is the price.

That looks like a very good package BOB.

Notice the large price diff between MY13-MY14 Oil filters?

· Oil filter (2011-13) 68109834AA - 1 week availability $52

· Oil filter (2014+) 68191349AA - 1 week availability $7.08

· Air filter 04861688AA - 1 week availability $22.96

· Cabin air filter 68079487AA - Currently available $25.40

Great work Bob, and certainly worthwhile for those doing their own service and looking for the Mopar name......
Just for the basis of comparison and put the information to hand, my past purchases from Eziautoparts in Vic have been -
Wesfil air filter - WA5135 - $20.40 - currently running in vehicle
Wesfil cabin filter - WACF 0154 - $17.55 - currently running in vehicle
Wesfil fuel filter - WCF 203 - $29.25 - carried on board as spares 2 required
Postage was around $15 to the Gold Coast and all arrived within 4 days of order. Very easy to deal with too.
Last price I had for a Wesfil WCO163 oil filter was $16.70
For dealer supplied oil filter at service I paid $58.35
For genuine fuel filters I paid $113.35 each from the dealer (once I kicked up a stink about this price and the $115 labour I paid, I now have an agreement that I will be invoiced trade pricing on future parts).
There are definitely savings to be made......

For all we know the Wesfil and Mopar filters come out of the same factory but the thing is, we just don't know.

Peter of JustForJeeps tells me he has ordered 6 fuel filters from Mopar to keep tabs on their delivery. He will let us know when they arrive.

The big price difference between the 2011-2013 and 2014+ oil filters is because the 2014+ CRDs will be using the same oil filters as the Jeep petrol engines.

Mopar are a bit confused. Peter has just received six fuel filters. So get your orders in while stocks last! No, I assume the supply is normal now. I've ordered mine. The site again is Australia Jeep Garage Group Buy .

Just received the JustForJeeps Australia Jeep Garage Group Buy major maintenance package 3 weeks and 2 days after placing the order. All products come in Mopar packaging but I can determine the manufacturers as follows:

Oil Filter: UFI (Universal Filter Italiana) branded - Italian company - Made in China - Benvenuto in UFI FILTERS - Brown paper type in a high quality plastic fitting with a large and a small O-ring.
Fuel Filter/Water Separator (2): UFI branded - Italian company - made in China - Dense white fleece type in a high quality plastic fitting with a water sump underneath.
Engine Air Filter: Hengst branded - German company - Don't know where made - Identical to OEM filter.
Cabin Air Filter: micronAir branded - German company - Made in USA - White paper type.
Sump Plug Washer: Flat copper washer, ~17.5mm ID, ~21mm OD and ~1mm thick.

I guess it’s not surprising that the oil filter and the fuel filter/water separators are Italian since the engine is Italian.

Would you mind sharing the shipping cost for this package?

When I typed "Oil" I forgot to remove "Fuel".

I added it to this Fuel Filter thread due to the JustForJeeps kit that was set up that includes an Oil Filter.

Just got an email from the site I ordered from:

Your order has been put on hold. One of the parts you ordered is on national backorder with no estimated time for replenishment.

4726067AA FUEL/WATER SEPARATOR
is not available

Would you like to proceed without this item on your order? If so, you will be refunded $58.50 and your order will ship out in 4-5 business days.

Please respond and let me know what you want to do.

Thank you for your business!

I've asked them to cancel the entire order as it won't get to me before my booked service and advise me when the fuel/water seperator becomes available. I'll post when the fuel filter becomes available.

I'm now advised to check back in mid January for the fuel filter.
