I didn't think you could use gold leaf as a filter medium....

This is probably my last service before warranty expires. I will be going aftermarket from then on.
Replacing the drain plug is a complete rort. It does not need to be replaced. Only the drain plug washer needs to be replaced and it's a standard copper washer that costs only a few cents. Chances are they didn't replace the drain plug al all but charged you for it anyway.

I do my own servicing and bought myself a supply of washers that should easily last the life of the car.

Re: Now its fuel filter prices!!!

I thought as much, Bob. I've never owned a car with a consumable drain plug. My wife's KE30 Corolla had a fibre washer that I degreased every service for over 280000km. One fibre washer.

Now I feel really stung.

Re: Now its fuel filter prices!!!

I'd be asking to see the old drain plug to confirm it was damaged/faulty or I would not be paying that charge, the copper drain plug washer should be replaced, the only reason to replace the drain plug is if it's damaged
If damaged by the service tech then the dealer should be paying
If faulty and your jeep is under warranty then jeep Au should warrant
A drain plug is not a consumable part

I wouldn't go so far as to use the same washer but I must admit I have done so when desperate and yes, it worked. The idea is that the washers both, metal and fibre, crush down to form a seal. They don't crush down as well the second time around and the fibre ones can split although apparently not the Toyota ones

Re: Now its fuel filter prices!!!

I'm guessing that whoever keyed up the invoice called up a new sump plug and not a sump plug washer.

Re: Now its fuel filter prices!!!

My first couple of services I was given a new sump plug (on invoice) and the most expensive was an eye watering $35, after which I brought a bundle in from the US and started handing them over at each service. I agree this is totally unnecessary but some dealers seem to have been advised to always replace them.

Re: Now its fuel filter prices!!!

Hi,
Has any GC 2014 CRD owners had issues with leaking fuel filters?
It has happened to me twice now. 73k
The filters fail and pump out diesel when the engine is running.
Very embarrassing seeing a trail of fuel behind you when driving.

Just replaced with Cooper WCF203. The ones taken out look original.
Takes 10 mins to do yourself.
I will carry spares and tools to fix from now on.

Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Andrew

Re: Now its fuel filter prices!!!

Never heard of this as an issue. Maybe the previous ones were over tightened? Should be 20NM only.

Re: Now its fuel filter prices!!!

The first lot of Wesfil fuel filters (WCF203)I purchased came with the plastic hex drive caps. But they now come in pairs (WCF195) with only new o rings no plastic caps. Had a look at the Ryco R2745P and they were the same no caps just o rings. You can re use your old caps no worries but it would be nice to have a couple of spares. Uses the same 27mm socket as oil filter, it is only plastic so just nip them up. (I have stripped more aluminium threads with a torque wrench than without)
