Re: OBDII wifi dongle and Ipad app

Hi everyone,
What are some of the engine, car diagnostics that you are monitoring.
My transmission and engine temps are both the same through the OBD and of course different on the jeep display
Thanks
John W

a WiFi dongle will future proof you if you are ever rich enough to go for an apple tablet or phone, and it will work with your Android device in the mean time.

I bought my ELM dongle in the hope that it might tell me what was happening with my DPF, but no luck so far. Dash Commander tells me the catalyst temp, but the dealer tells me that high temps in the converter doesn't indicate a regen, Torque has a Gauge for DPF temp, but doesn't pick up a reading from the ELM.

I'll have a look at the standard temp gauges when I am out later today.

I wonder if this will apply to the GC?

Hmmm, I am not convinced your dealer is right.

I typically monitor oil temp, coolant temp, transmission temp and Cat temp on my Dash Command app.

I SOMETIMES see a regen happening, and what I see IF it happens on the highway, is a sudden unexplained fuel flow increase, (higher litres/100 KLM ie: lower MPG), combined with a very significant catalyst temp increase.
It is quite obvious at reasonably steady speeds and flat terrain. Sure, if climbing a mountain range, it might not be noticeable.
However much of the time it is if you keep an eye on it.

And yes, I would like to know more re the state of the DPF, specifically %full. Can't do that on "Dash Command" yet, though maybe in the future. (I emailed them, and they sort of hinted in their reply that it may be coming in the future.)
Cheers
David. (by iPad)

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on the cat temp.

There is an app on the apple store called Engine link. It will allow you to set up a custom pid to monitor the DPF full %.

The other DPF thread has details on how this works. Should be fine with an MY14 vehicle.

Digging up this thread again, just wondering if you ever got a DPF full percentage readout as I'm about to pull the trigger on a wifi OBDii for iPhone/iPad use and wondering if there is any success in monitoring the DPF?

No, I never got it to work. I believe that my MY13 ecu does not provide as much ODBII info as the MY14 does. On the other thread
Is DPF issue for 2014 CRD fixed now?
there are lots of people who have been able to get DPF full info from their MY14s, so you should be fine.

There is a lot of info there, it's up to page 76, so I would start towards the end unless you are a speed reader.

Re: OBDII wifi dongle and Ipad app

Has anyone got any images of how they have mounted their Ipad's in the Jeep?
I'm looking to do this with my Ipad mini so I can run Dash Command but am struggling to come up with a way to mount it without it looking too rediculous.

Cheers,
Matt

Look at ram mounts, they're the most bomb proof accessory..

Cheers,

Matt

I already had a GoPro sticky mount on my dash, so used another one stuck on a tablet case, with a few joint adapters to make a short arm to join the two. Tablet sits up nice and straight on the dash and is easy to adjust in all directions to the desired viewing angle for using maps or OBD display.

Thanks to Ebay, the required parts cost me under $10.

Cheers, Simon

Any chance of a more details, preferably a photo please Simon?

I also use the iPad Mini, which sits down on the console leaning up against the vertical part, with stick on Velcro spots stuck on the iPad and dash.
It works well though I'd rather mount it higher!

Cheers
David
