Re: OBDII wifi dongle and Ipad app

OK..........think I've come up with a workable solution to mount my Ipad mini when required.
I bought one of these

http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/010...g?v=1386739123

from Quad Lock ‐ Car Mount - Suction Mount

I also use the iPad Mini, which sits down on the console leaning up against the vertical part, with stick on Velcro spots stuck on the iPad and dash.

It works well though I'd rather mount it higher!

Cheers

Had to hack off one tooth from an adapter in the middle, to get a reversed connection in the GoPro adapters. Nice and solid do far. Works for me

Cheers, Simon

Yes you could, if my eyes were at chest height where I was holding the camera
Luckily I'm 6'1" and I can see clearly over the top of it. It obscures maybe 5mm of the bottom of the windscreen from my driving position..

OK if not a Corolla then maybe a Lamborghini Gallardo (the smaller cheaper one), they're only about 5mm off the ground.

I'm just using a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact (iphone 5 sized). Will stick it to the air vent with a little magnetic clamp, should be easy enough to see without getting in the way.

Re: OBDII wifi dongle and Ipad app

Thanks gentlemen.

Looks like I will have to get a better mount system for the mini iPad than my current very high tech system. (Blu tack!).

Speaking of blind spots, it never ceases to amaze me how people mount GPS devices (etc) at eye height on the windscreen! Why the hell wouldn't you mount it lower where can you can see over it, at least enough to miss the non-Lamborghinis out there.

Not surprisingly, it's an offence to have it at eye height, thus causing a blind spot, and the police do book people for that, as they should.

Re: OBDII wifi dongle and Ipad app

Now I totally agree about having devices mounted on a windscreen causing a blind spot, so I took this photo holding the lens at my eye height whilst sitting in my usual driving position. Quite a difference from the previous photo.
It's all about perspective.

Re: OBDII wifi dongle and Ipad app

Yeh Matt,
(I assume it's Matt, going by your ID?)
Thanks for the photos.

Totally different perspective and I figured as much. I really have to do something with mine- having it UP NEAR your line of vision, without actually obscuring it, is way better than where mine is, down low.

You only have to move your eyes slightly to see it, and would still have "peripheral vision" on the road, where as I have to move my eyes a long way down to the console.

Any time you drive around though, just watch all the idiots who have devices whether phones, tablets or GPS's right up high on the windscreen. Bloody crazy - and dangerous.

Re: OBDII wifi dongle and Ipad app

Thought I'd revive this. I haven't been able to get my speed display to work on my Dash Command app on the ipad whilst driving.
I've been through all the menu's and settings I can find but haven't been able to get it to work.
It just displays 0km/h. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Matt

Re: OBDII wifi dongle and Ipad app

I'm not sure, but is your iPad just wifi or 3G.
(Maybe it uses gps, which ain't on the wifi only iPad)
You then need "location" enabled in general/ settings.

Just a guess. (I don't use Dash Command any more, and don't use speed.)

Re: OBDII wifi dongle and Ipad app

Just got an ELN dongle, anyone know the BSFC (brake specific fuel consumption) for the GC2014 CRD ?

Seems the diesel and 2014 GC's are't listed in the Dash Command App on teh iphone, so you need to populate some specs....

I assume you mean ELM not ELN.

No, don't know the BSFC......
You won't be able to do a custom PID on Dash command (unless they've updated it?), to ascertain DPF fill level. (I have Dash Command but haven't used it for a while.)

That DPF figure using Steve's custom PID settings is a real must IMHO.
I bought OBD Fusion for that, which I run on iPhone or iPad.

Cya

PS Don't forget the ELM WiFi dongle will flatten your battery over time if left connected.
