Re: Off Road 18"s

I agree... that's too tight.

Are these fitted on OEM rims or aftermarket? Otherwise, it's simply that the BFG AT shoulder is squarer than almost anything else in this size. The tread width must be very wide for the sectional width!

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Off Road 18"s

Yeah, that is a bit too close for comfort.... I'm nervous about fitting the Cooper Maxx 275/65s

I'm also having a dilemma about the spare. Initially I was going to stick a full sized 275/65 on the roof for longer trips, and rely on a 255/70 (or similar) under the floor for around town. But that spare on the roof consumes a lot of the weight capacity up on the roof, and space, and it's a lot of money to have an STMaxx as a spare on an alloy rim.

So I thought I could live with a good 255/70 as my spare, and just unload everything out of the boot if I got a flat on a long trip. But here's the next problem, where do I put the flat once it's off? I'm guessing it won't fit under the floor, and with a boot full of gear, what do you do with it?

So maybe I need to build a new floor for long trips..... dunno!

Re: Off Road 18"s

Nice data... figured as much. BFGs, AT in particular, have always looked to have the widest footprint for a specific size.

It's a shame that I can't edit the list at the start of this thread. Maybe I should approach the moderators?

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Off Road 18"s

I guess that means you are getting as much rubber on the road with a BFG 265 as you might with other brands in a 275....

Benno,
You may have to change your status. Looks like she is off the boat now!

Re: Off Road 18"s

I know nothing! I was hoping it would get delivered this week, I'm driving up the coast for the long weekend. Looks like I'm taking the old cruiser instead

Benn0, do you reckon the ST Maxx are a better tyre? I only ever had BFG's on all my cars so am taking advice from my tyre guy who reckons the Hankooks are the best all round tyre. As always it's just an opinion.

I only went the P265/60R18 because that was the sizing on the stock tyres. Not sure if your rules are different up there in the Nth, I know we are limited in sizing by law as the tyre size will affect odometer readings, and with our states heavy reliance on speed cameras, they won't allow you the "my tyres dun it Sir" loophole.

I'm looking at the Yokohama Geolandar ATS G012. Anybody tried these? They also do a stock tire size for the Jeep.

Re: Off Road 18"s

The Geolandar are not a tough tyre. If that's not a concern... disregard comment.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for the information, but I suppose I need to find rims first. Can you fit 17" rims on an export Overland? I really like the ?Method 105 beadlock, but only come in 17" with a narrow offset 😖.
