Re: Off Road 18"s

I didn't know about that. Suppose I could open the sunroof to join in? Does that count, or is it more like leaving your fly open?

Cheers,
Steve

I only went the P265/60R18 because that was the sizing on the stock tyres. Not sure if your rules are different up there in the Nth, I know we are limited in sizing by law as the tyre size will affect odometer readings, and with our states heavy reliance on speed cameras, they won't allow you the "my tyres dun it Sir" loophole.
The Hankooks do look good, and I think they would handle pretty much all the terrain I would be tackling, but the STMaxx just got me, whenever I see them on a truck (a couple Prados had them on fraser) I get drawn to them. So maybe a waste of money, but couldn't stop myself.

I'd definitely stick with the LT over the P construction. And I'm pretty sure you can get the speedo adjusted for the bigger tyres, and you can go up to 2 inches bigger diameter without problems with road regs (pretty sure that is uniform nationally now).

Aussie Grands come with the heavy duty brakes option which precludes fitting 17" wheels. Lower optioned US models have 17" OEM wheels. In any case, bead-locks are illegal in Oz for road use. The ones you see around are usually fake bead-locks.

I'm interested in Bridgestone D697 LT 265/60R18 which has decent review. What you guys think?

I believe BobT has them and is happy. I had them on my previous Mitsi and found them fine.

A good all round tyre - you could do worse....

Yep I've got them. I've had them on long fast hot bitumen trips, in the rain and on sand but not a lot yet on rock or mud. So far, no problems. Surprisingly they don't feel or handle much different to the OEMs. They pick up more stones but that is expected with a deeper and wider tread. Road noise is there but not obtrusive. They are not particularly sensitive to varying tyre pressures. However, getting anyone to officially commit to an optimum tyre pressure for the D697s has proved impossible. Opinions abound but no one knows for sure, not even Bridgestone. The official fall back is always the sticker pressure but this is for passenger tyres only. See my ramblings on this elsewhere.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Hard to answer without knowing what you're going to be doing.

I believe the percentage on road versus percentage off road concept is pretty stupid. In my opinion you need your tyres to handle the worst that you'll expect of them, even if it's only 0.001% of your usage.

Others will disagree...

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Off Road 18"s

They're dissimilar tyres. Probably only the Cooper AT3s and D697 are comparable... and they're the same price.
