Re: Off Road 18"s

Woohoo!!
Just managed to pick up a set of MY12 18's with Cooper AT3's in 265/60 x 18 tyres for $500.
Tyres have approx. 10K on them. Happy with that as they'll sit in the shed until I decide to go offroad, then I'll fit them for trips.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Just be clear for people who keep asking, the OME full size 18" mag fits in the spare wheel well with a standard size 265 tyre. I have cooper AT3 and fits fine - tubs included.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Does anyone have a spare with a tyre pressure sensor in it and are putting it in the spare wheel well?

Re: Off Road 18"s

Last year I bought a 5th tire and rim when my Jeep was only a month old as I wanted a true full size spare and at that time I asked the service department about getting a 5th TPM also.

I was told that unless the monitoring system was originally equipped to monitor the spare's pressure also ( a 5 tire monitoring system), having a TPM in the spare would confuse the system.

Not sure if that is true, but is what I was told.

I have a real spare with a TPM in it and haven't noticed any issues. It still shows the 4 wheels as the pick up sensors are located in proximity to the wheels. TPM units from the dealers are a fortune but can readily be bought on eBay in the US.

I have TPMs on all my wheels, the spare in the car, the two trailer wheels and the trailer spare. There has been no issue. My understanding is that the wheel has to be spinning for the TPM to register.

Re: Off Road 18"s

I'm going to assume the steel rimmed spare doesn't have a TPM then? Haven't looked on mine.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Can you tell by looking at the valve if it has a TPM fitted?
Do they look different?

Re: Off Road 18"s

Not a whole lot different to my eyes Matty. On my car the sensor ones are a shade fatter than the ones on the spare, but aftermarket plain stems could be different.

The air doesn't seem to come out of a TPMS stem as quickly when the valve core is removed. That's all I got mate!
