Off Road 18"s

I know the Cooper AT3 are not an LT, but good enough for me - I'm not planning on crossing the Simpson any time soon.

Mine is upside down so the jack and tools fit as normal.

Re: Off Road 18"s

my d697 265/60 r18 Lt on OEM 18 in the boot with 2 side bins definitely doesn't click shut no matter how hard I push on the lid. taking out the 2 side bins didn't make a difference either. sits up about 1cm

Hmmm. While my tyres are different, I believe it is the rim which hits the bump at the rear of the well, causing the wheel to sit up too high. I'll have to have another look.

Maybe the 2012's don't have a hump at the back of the wheel well - do you know if yours does?

Re: Off Road 18"s

I'm in need of a new set of shoes.

The Wildpeaks are getting really noisy, and at speeds feels very unstable.

I'm looking for something quiet ( I miss the quietness of the WK2), good onroad manners especially in the wet, and decent offroad.

Am looking at the following in 265/60r18 or 265/65r18

- Yokohama Geolander AT/S G012
- Hancook Dynapro ATM RF10
- Hercules Terra Trak AT II
- Pirelli Scorpion ATR
- Cooper Discover AT3

Obviously the Coopers are the most expensive so I'd rather not go for them.

Have heard good things about all of these, but just don't know what to go with.
Any ideas?

Re: Off Road 18"s

Hi noons,

I have had the Pirelli's & Coopers. Both great tyres. The Pirelli's are very quiet, great on road and fair off road.

The Coopers are quiet to start with but get louder as they wear. Also great on road and better than the Pirelli's off road. They do last longer than any other tyre I have had.

Have heard good reports on the Hankooks on & off road. Not sure about the noise.

Cheers, Craig

Re: Off Road 18"s

Thanks Craig.

The Pirelli's sound like they might be a front runner.
I do like the look of the Hancooks and Hercules though..

I suppose the Pirelli's are probably the best road tyre out of the list?

Re: Off Road 18"s

Have you decided on LT or P construction mate, or are you leaving that in the mix for now?

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Off Road 18"s

I've got about 65,000 on my Cooper AT3 rear tyres now and I'm perfectly happy with them. I reckon they still have 20,000 on them easy. Only problem I had was one front delaminated INSIDE but was replaced under warranty. And other wore out on the shoulder due to the dreaded GC alignment problems - so fronts should last another 40,000 and beyond me changing the car over.

Fine in the wet, not too noisy at all and good enough for the off road work I do. I'd get them again.
