Off Road 18"s

Just had BFG KO's fitted to my GC, 265/65/18. Very pleased with them but there is a small amount of liner rub at full lock. I think this should go away when the OME lift goes on in a few weeks..
Great looking tyre, makes my car look more off-road ready than those Michelins did. Found someone to buy my old ones (11k used) and Bob Jane fitted them to his car for $25 a corner. Good deal!

Cheers, Simon

Thinking of getting a set of Maxxis Big Horns MT762 275/65R18 on a separate set of rims for offroad only trips.

Anyone tried these? I have QL but won't be putting in 'entry/exit' height.

Maxxis MT-762 BIG HORN - Offroad & Extreme
Some are successfully using the BF Goodrich T/A KO LT265/65R18 with only minor scuffing of the fender liner. However, it has a diameter of 801mm whereas the Maxxis has a diameter of 815mm so it could be a problem. I have Bridgestone D697's in 265/60R18LT which is the OEM size except for the LT. They have a diameter of 775mm and show no signs of scuffing. But hold the phone, BFG are bringing out a new series called T/A KO2 which is supposedly tougher than the already tough KO and it will come in the GC's OEM size. I'd hang around for that if you can wait that long... and have deep pockets.

Also, be aware that the while the Maxxis is listed as 8-ply, there is no mention of it being of LT construction so the sidewalls may be a little more vulnerable than genuine LT's. Not a problem for mud, sand or snow but may be a problem around rocks and sticks.

Re: Off Road 18"s

I have had General Grabber AT2s in 275/65R18 fitted for a while now. No contact, even in Entry/Exit when manoeuvring trailers. I probably wouldn't push the articulation much in that height setting though... it's damned close to the guards.

The tyres are listed as 32.2", which is 843mm (oops, I mean 818mm ).

My previous MY14 suffered some minor abrasion to the rear guard liners, but there's been no contact on the "later" MY14 I have now.

Bear in mind that it is the tread width and side lugs which will cause the problems...

Cheers,
Steve

Wheel spacers...perhaps they could solve rubbing issues?

Re: Off Road 18"s

What's the dimensional spec of your tyre choice 'Skiddy? I can't see you having any dramas... especially if you stay out of Entry/Exit.

Spacers could exacerbate the problem at the most forward edge of the front tyres. This is where it's real close... I'll take a photo next time I start the car.

Cheers,
Steve

815mm. I think your conversion is out for yours, 32.2 would be 818mm.

I see that Bill of Chief Products has some big tyres on his MY14 Overland. I read somewhere on AJOR that he used spacers on the rear.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Stupid Android converter. I thought it sounded a bit huuuuge... should have checked.

Spacers on the rear could be worthwhile considering if the side lugs bite into the guard liners.
