If you can get a swing-away for the Jeep, the second spare would be better on the back, no wind resistance, no wind noise, lower centre of gravity.

I have a camper-trailer with Jeep wheels and a spare and a full size spare in the Jeep. So with the trailer, I have 6 running wheels and 2 spares all identical and interchangeable. I figure it's the most economical way to carry 2 spares. OK, 2 spares for 6 wheel is not as good as 2 spares for 4 wheels but I think it's good enough.

At the moment my offroading is only local to home. If I bust a tyre the standard spare will be fine, as I proved recently (see WK2 Offroad thread).

Watching Top Gear last night Jeremy Clarkson continued through snow with no tyre on one rim. She'll be right...

Re: Off Road 18"s

For anyone looking for a solid deal on the Falkens, $274 each is easily the cheapest ive seen a known brand LT AT for in that size. My Cooper ST Maxx were $440 each by comparison.

They also do a 7% discount on the order if you enter email address..

My bent Laredo rim is definitely getting some offroad use now.

Hankook Dynapro AT-M RF10 Tyres from $164

I have had a set of these on my WK2 for 67,000 KL now were great when new noise was a little more than the Kumho's but that's expected, wet grip has diminished as they have aged/worn ( like all AT tyres) they seem to become that way at about 2/3+ worn.
Thing that is noticeable now is road noise has escalated despite my rotation and tyre pressure addiction.
BUT at their price one could fit these get to this point throw them out and start again still cheaper than the other tyre options out there.

Brilliant! I was thinking the same thing just the other day but more in terms of a hose real. In Africa I saw them being used as charcoal wok burners but that would be for steel wheels.

Fitted 285/60/18 LTAT697 Bridgestones and 2" RR lift kit. Plenty of clearance between inner guards. A bit close to the upper ball joint but dosnt appear to have ever touched after 500KM around Deep Creek and Flinders Rangers and 7000Km on flat top.

Nice one!!

I had written off that size assuming it wouldn't fit, D697s are great tyres but going down to the factory size was never going to happen for mine.

If I ever get sick of the ST Maxx noise i'll be getting these for sure.
