Re: Off Road 18"s

I've had no problems with the 697's either and that's after 30,000km and still a bit to go. However, I've got them in the stock size 265/60R18LT. I presume you got the wider 285/60R18LT's for that performance looks, is that right?

There's the 12mm additional ground clearance too Bob?

Cheers,

Re: Off Road 18"s

I cannot remember the last time I've had a puncture, but I've now suffered two nails in the last two months. I had a slow leak about a month ago from a nail in the tread which I had plugged, and now I've got another. Off to the tyre shop on Saturday. I have Cooper AT3 now with 70k on the rears and I've started to notice a lack of grip in the wet, still plenty of tread however - I reckon I'd get another 20k out of them based on tread. The fronts were replaced at about 40k due to poor wheel alignment problems scrubbing out the outside edges.

Re: Off Road 18"s

As Steve has pointed out its the additional height gain which is about 12mm. I purchased a second set of rims and tyres and change them out when not going off road.

I was picking up a few nails in the tread when there was building work going on around the house. Also I once picked up a screw in the tread at a dealership. They denied all responsibility. I didn't go back. Get yourself a plug kit. It's quite easy and effective to plug your own tyres and satisfying too.

I didn't think of that. That would be worth the extra cost. There is also the slightly taller gearing so perhaps a bit of fuel saving as well.

I know that the blizzaks are considered a winter tire, does anyone run these year round?

Re: Off Road 18"s

I'm currently running Sigma Wild Spirit Radial AT/S 265/60/R18 on my Amarok that are made in the Cooper Factory. Were pretty cheap (about 250ish I think rrp) but are like coopers and crap in the wet. Get plenty of understeer in the wet, but are wearing really well , quiet and great in the sand. They should fit the GC and may be an economical choice for some.

I'm looking at getting either Nitto Terra Glappler, Toyo Open Country ATII or General Grabber AT2 or SLR with siping. Not 100% sure on size as want to fit in spare wheel well but luckily have a mate who owns a tyre shop so will hopefully try a couple and see what fits and report back here. Thanks for the 41 pages of info everyone also. Helps to know what to look out for issues wise.

Oh yeh and have 18" rims with QL, ORAII on Limited

My cooper stmaxx are great in the wet, I think they changed the compound a few years back.

Good to hear. They used be scary in wet. Worse after some wear. From reading through this thread it seems just sitting a rimless tyre in the spare wheel well to see if it will close won't work. Some are having trouble with the rim also. Is that correct?

I hate the scissor jacks so will probably ditch and fit a bottle jack wrapped in rags.

I think you said Benn0 that you didn't trust the bottle jack on the mopar rock rails. Maybe a piece of wood with hole cut in it part way the diameter of the jack head would work or cut some waffle pad or rubber to sandwich between the rail and jack head?
