Re: Off Road 18"s

I had the 694's on 3 cars and never had an issue in the wet, the three previous vehicles were constant 4wd so was never in 2WD so that might make a difference, the 697's do feel gripper than the Nitto's that came off though.

Were they LT's Hutch?
Not sure that there would be a massive difference in grip in any case.

Cheers, Craig

By "wet" I presume you mean wet bitumen. I have no illusions about the performance of any LT A/T tyre on wet bitumen. It's not what they are made for. Whether the D697's are better or worse than any other I couldn't say. Yes they do let go on wet roundabouts but the ESC does a great job of controlling the car. It's a delight to get them sliding a bit. Prior to the Jeep I had a Commodore SV6 shod with Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003 a fairly high performance tyre. It had traction control but no ESC. When they let go around a wet roundabout, I can tell you I was really pumping adrenalin. The Jeep is a docile lamb in comparison.

I've posted this elsewhere, but for anyone who may have missed it, in Euroland they have a label standard which includes db (sound level) external to the car:

Cooper S/T MAXX: 76 db (twice as loud as AT3)
Cooper STT: 74 db

BFG KO2: 74 db

Re: Off Road 18"s

Coopers rep has told me unofficially that the STT Pro has been tested to make the same amount of noise as the ST Maxx, they share a carcass.

There hasn't been any published euro labels though. Absolutely zero point in most of Australia to having the ST Maxx over the STT Pro if it ends up being the case, given that the only other difference is snow/ice (ST Maxx) vs mud (STT Pro).

Just fitted Cooper SRX tyres as my every day bitumen tyre. They are rated at 71db. Quietest tyre I have ever had on a 4WD.

Cheers, Craig

Good post SnakeDoctor. Is there any indication if these measurements were done new or whole of life? It4vette's issue was how noisy the BFG's became as they wore.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Hi all,
Will be picking up new Overland with Adventure Group next week. Comes standard with Kuhmo KL21 tyres and I am wanting to change to AT tyres like Goodyear Wrangler Adventure. Kuhmo have a "H" speed rating and all AT tyres I can see including the Goodyears only have a "T" speed rating. Tyre guys have advised me to check with insurance Company to see if this lesser speed rating would effect insurance claims. Anyone else experienced this? ps this is is NSW.
Allan
