Re: Off Road 18"s

I agree BobT. US site has way more info tech stats on the tyres which is so critical for JGC if wanting to go a little larger.
What I have noticed as well which is crazy - lost in translation obviously??.......
quote USA site....
'The legendary Road Venture AT51 offers world-class traction on soft terrain, and surprising comfort on the road. It's well-adapted to deep snow, muddy job sites and wet highways, with a ride that rivals many touring tires. Superbly balanced on/off-road performance, with exceptional efficiency.'

quote Aus site.......
'A new, modern all terrain tyre optimised for dry, off road traction & wear performance. The aggressive design of the Road Venture AT51 makes it ideal for on and off road use. Perfect for light trucks, high levels of braking and optimal handling performance.'

This tyre has an actual 10 rating in snow and the snow flake tattooed into the tyre sidewall.
Also rated 7 in the wet.
Begs the phrase 'Please explain! to the AU script writers.

I very much wanted the LT construction but did have to wait a week or so for them to come up from Victoria.
Quite a high load rating 123/120 but surprisingly quiet and comfortable on road.
Had thought they might be less so because of construction and the additional pressure at the advised 40psi.
Happy camper

Re: Off Road 18"s

Does anyone know if the Jeep logo on the 18" Mopar Night Fever is stamped/etched or painted?

Re: Off Road 18"s

Hi Kirklandspud,
I have recently put these on my GC. Jeep logo appears to be etched but the exposed colour has been finished with a sealant product ie. it is not raw milled magnesium alloy.
hope that helps.
cheers,Guy

Re: Off Road 18"s

Can anyone share a quadra lift WK2 at all ride heights with the 275/65R18 on them? I'm looking at this tire and maybe a wheel with a little more offset to bring the tires out behind the wheel well a little.

I have seen a few pics but all the photos are at weird angles.

thanks guys!

Mate I'd be happy to do that when the car is outside, but appreciate that the actual tyre will have a significant impact on clearance at the front. It's not the sectional width that's the problem, it's the actual tread width causing contact at the shoulder.

The General Grabber AT2s I have in that size, mounted on the OEM 18" rims, really don't leave much room for an offset shift outwards. Currently I don't have any contact in most any situation, though front articulation in Aero or Entry/Exit just brings the tyre in contact with the liner. If the tyres didn't have such a square shoulder there would obviously be more room. Some muds might be better than ATs in this regard.

So you could probably get away with some additional offset... many do... though I suspect you'd need to keep it in mind and baby things in certain situations. Bear in mind that people sometimes don't always mention the compromises they have happily accepted to achieve a desired outcome, or perhaps don't encounter situations where the consequences come into play.

I believe to get a firm "picture" of the fitment, you need to see your actual choice of tyre.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve. That is really helpful advice. When ever you have a chance I would love to see some pics of your ride.

Regarding the offset, I'm really only trying to achieve the look of a wider tire that slightly protrudes the fender. So maybe I one of the 275s would achieve that on the OE tire anyway. I hadn't even thought about that.

You might get the look you want but with wider tires and a change to suspension geometry, be prepared for a performance loss.

275 is well inside the fender/guard. To protrude, the offset would require fender/guard trimming and/or running at above normal ride height... that's if you want to go around corners anyway.

Going to a tyre with a wider sectional width, and a wide tread width for that size, you will get a bit of the look without hurting much more than your pocket. You can justify it as additional clearance

Offset, as suggested, can create an unsatisfying loss of dynamic performance...especially when coupled with lift. Make sure you check your objectives with Mr Everyday.

Photos over the weekend...

Cheers,
Steve

Awesome. Thanks and great feedback and future pics. It sounds like the offset idea is a bad one and I can achieve what I'm looking for with tires alone.
