Just had a look the only problem with them they are a 4 ply not 5, so more of a mud terrain that a all terrain tyre. would not think you would get good km of the highway as well as slippery in wet?

cheers

Re: Off Road 18"s

Hey Brenden, it looks like your dealer has joined the masses of Australian automotive hacks who don't know their product. An additional TPMS will work fine... remember, I have 2 full sets of TPMS and everything works fine immediately on changing the wheels over.

My General Grabber AT2s were $340 a corner. The tyre dealer would have given me over $100 for a totally new but fitted Michelin 18" tyre... I was looking at some local wheels with tyres but all the sellers had used them for a while. You need to get them off immediately to get money for them.

Cheers,
Steve

all I can say is get annoying some times what you get told!. I looked at those ones on Ebay to thinking should I try them wish I did. Yes tires are very expensive, looking at either Cooper AT3's $475ea or Bridgstone 697's @ $540 Ea... Looked at Tire rack in the states and can get them shipped here but then the dealer will not fit them as its not "their" tyre.. so either way they kinda have you pinned. still contacting other tire dealers to find out if they will fit tyres from the US.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Both those tyres have earned a reputation plus a following of fanboys... and the price has followed. I'm not saying either are not good choices, but I think the manufacturers and distributors are all making a bit of an extra earn off the back of that "sure thing" reputation. You need to look for the new "challengers".

So if you don't like what I fitted, check out :

- "Hercules Terra Trac tyres in 265/60/18 these are made in the US and at $220 each fitted and balanced are a bargain" (thanks AdamT)
- Falken Wildpeak A/T (Noons' looked fine after a run to the North West)
- Hankook have an LT 3 ply AT (these were my second choice... if you can't find them let me know.)

Anything over $400 is kinda taking the piss in my opinion.

Ciao,
Steve

Welcome to Hankook Tyre Australia Website

I was looking at the muds, but the ATM is probably more what you're looking for.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Off Road 18"s

Gents, I put on the Cooper AT3 265/60R18 when the stock Kumho's were buggered at about 45,000K.
The Coopers now have 60,000 on them and they are running fine, with still plenty of meat left in them. They work well on road and nice and grippy when off the black stuff. Although with this milage on them, they are now a little slippery on greasy roads.
i bought them on 1/12/12 and paid $360 per corner (incl fit & balancing) from a major tyre dealer in Tempe in Sydney.
cheers

If you got 45,000km out of the Kumhos then what you call "...off the black stuff", is surely not off-road in the sense of not on a road.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Hi Bob, pretty much correct. Doing about 50,000 k's per year as my daily driver and no lift installed, doesnt leave much time for serious off road, and the Kumhos were not much good for that in any case. However since i put the Coopers on, we have taken the truck into some well "off road" country out back of Lithgow, down the south coast and around Melbourne and they have performed very well. The only issue being the softer sidewalls which have been cut up a bit by sharp rocks. Overall i am pretty happy with them.

Yep "...back of Lithgow..." qualifies.

Just swapped back to my 20"s today. Car looks quite sad... like I castrated it.

It punished me for doing it though... just as I started jacking it up the alarm went off and I promptly shit my pants.

No bad deed goes unpunished.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Off Road 18"s

Well I still haven't decided, still have a good 5 weeks before the car arrives, so not in a rush, yet.

But my thinking now is that the Cooper AT3s are too expensive when the Dynapros will do the same job. Best price I could find for the AT3s in LT275/65R18 was $440 ea. The Dynapro ATM RF10 in LT275/65R18 is $335ea. Hard to justify the difference there.

I was leaning towards the Nitto Terras, but apparently none in the country in that size. Might chase an ETA on those.

Spanner in the works is the Cooper STMaxx are suppose to be landing 'soon' in the LT275/65..... tempting! $497 is the price I have been given on those.
