While not looking to trash the rims, I did buy them for off road work and I figured I'd rather scratch/dent a $230 rim rather than the Mopar offerings at over $500 a piece. I'm pleasantly surprised at the levels of road noise at highway speeds, definitely improved the ride over the 20" rims when it comes to any imperfections/joins etc on the bitumen. Only downside are the smart a#*! comments about the Jeep being perfect for Walter White or some Columbian cartel bus. Matty, I got the 4 TPMS sensors on Ebay from the 'wheel_man'. Same part # as what any Aust dealer will sell you over the counter, except you are saving around $300. For the MY14 JGC you want Manufacturer Part Number 56029398AB (Factory OEM) Just saw Steve has posted the link. Really helpful to deal with and got the items to South Aust in a week.
This is the only reference to 18" rims I've found on this thread. My tyre dealer (bob jane) can't find a wheel for an extra spare for the JGC. The Mullins website only shows an 20 " wheel. Berg570, can you confirm that yours are 18" and the same width as the oem?
Are there any other wheels available in Oz? I can see Tirerack in the US has 40!
Thanks,
Russell

Thanks Fatboy - I am following up on one of those now. Do you, or anyone else, know the width of the eom steel spare wheel? My guess is that it's 7", but it could be 7.5".

Sorry Russell, just saw this question. Yes the Mullins 'Raptor' wheels are definitely 18's and same width as OEM. Give Mark a call at BJ T mart, Gouger Street Adelaide, 8231 1001. Very helpful. Very happy with the rims and D697's so far.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Is the offset identical... or just close?

Cheers,

Re: Off Road 18"s

The Mullings Raptor is a CSA wheel. Both of their WK2 wheels, that is both 18x8 and 20x8 with PCD 5/127, have an offset of +45. The OEM wheel offset is +56.4. This means the Raptors stand 11.4mm further out. This is probably to allow wider tyres. On the down side it means slightly more load on the bearings and it may affect the steering geometry. The Jeep's track will be increased by 23mm. This will give a better street look but may be a slight disadvantage off-road.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Thanks for confirming my suspicions Bob. I think lt4vette was planning on mixing the aftermarket rims with OEM... hence me raising the offset difference, which I recalled from research a few months back.

Personally, I wouldn't spend that kind of money to end up with a mismatched "temporary" spare... chasing up OEM is the way forward unless you're starting from scratch.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Off Road 18"s

Thanks guys. Yes, the plan was to have it as a second spare, thus mixing it with my oems. I picked up an oem Laredo wheel from a guy today, who had bought a set of 4, and only wanted two. So that problem is solved. I was surprised to see it was only 8" - the same as I eventually found the steel spare to be. I had figured that the spare was narrower to fit in the well, but the only difference is the smaller tyre. So I guess it is simply a cost saving measure (to have a steel wheel).
As it happens, I bought six BFG a/T's 265/65/18 today at $340 each - fitted and installed, and $80 cheaper than the 697's. I hesitated because of the non-OEM size, but the price plus my previous good experience with them carried the day.
Here are my initial observations (200km highway driving):
Road noise (vs khumos) is noticeably more at low speeds around town, but insignificantly more on the freeway.
The speedo went from reading about 3kph high at 100kph, to 1-2kph low. Haven't had a chance to check the odometer vs gps yet.
I had a 265/65/18 fitted to the steel spare, and with careful positioning of the tyre (pushed as far forward as possible) the boot floor shuts, albeit under a bit of stress I might try to relieve with some adjustment on the catch.
The two plastic curved boxes in the wheel well do not fit.
I will have the sixth tyre fitted to my "new" rim soon, and will use it to do 5 wheel rotations. It'll live in the camper most of the time. I'll have to get a tpms sensor for it. Can anyone point me to a recent post which talked about an eBay source for one? I can't figure out searching on this new iPad app, and haven't been able to find it.
Thanks to this forum for all the background info on this - especially Barboots for the initial tyre spec post.

The height difference is notable - I have a mark on my garage wall which I line up with the bonnet when in entry/exit mode to tell me when the car is far enough in, and today nearly shut the door on the back of the jeep! Have to move the mark I guess.

Re: Off Road 18"s

Great observations Russell.

See if wheel_man will break up a set of TPMS...
