Re: Ouch! Starter motor will not disengage.

Well, got the Jeep back. They had it from Friday morning when it was dropped off on a flat bed.

Guess what?!? Not a problem could be found.

Well bugger me with a pitch falk, isn't that always the way.

They tried with all their might to replicate the problem but nothing happed, said they put it on the diagnostic tool and no probs detected. They started the car occasionally throughout the day (so they say) but nothing wrong, started perfectly.

There was a T.S.B update and I forget what that one was, and something updated with Bluetooth or nav.

Its like you are not believed. Yes I get my car towed for cheap thrills.
They were not even interested to see a download of the problems I had on the iphone, all recorded.

Anyway, no loan car for me, didn't happen more than 100'ks from home.

Re: Ouch! Starter motor will not disengage.

Mine hasn't done it for ages but just did it again last week.

My dealer said there was a bulletin about this issue and it's something to do with the fuel tanks saddle design, apparently when there is less than 1/4 of a tank sensors can play up but he didn't advise of a fix.

Re: Ouch! Starter motor will not disengage.

Well, an update.

The little 'running on' of the starter did it again.
Booked in for recalls/fuel cap not opening and added this the mix.

BRACE YOURSELF, SIT DOWN, HEAVEN FORBID THE HEAD MECAHANIC HAD HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. GODS BE PRAISED.

He even was interested in seeing the incident on my phone where as the previous service manager was not at all interested.

Anyway, it is to do with the ignition module behind the dash where you push the start button. Just a little job. To access this you only have to remove the steering column, complete removal of dash and dash underneath where your knees hit. Yep, the whole lot back to the firewall. They got a new module in overnight, replaced and put the whole lot back together. Did I mention it needs a new set of keys for this particular module?

Did it work? NO!

Out come the steering column, dash etc. all again. A second module expressed in overnight. Everything put back, (did I mention it needed a second set of new keys)? No go again!

Now get this, got the call. I can still start the car using the key but you cannot use the push button start, just won't work. And the real kicker: I was told:"Its worse than before",from when I took it there. Now there is interference with the door lock/window mechanisms, they go haywire.

None of the interference was there with the windows and locks and the push button start did work when I presented the vehicle to them.

Apparently they have contacted JEEP AUS. for some code to put in to fix all this up. We will see tomorrow. Tuesday.

I am going there tomorrow, getting all my shit from the car and leaving it with them. If there are problems with the door locks, alarm bells ring. Imagine the wife and children locked in or out? Not worth the risk.

I have asked for a loan vehicle, they say its up to Jeep.

I won't take the car unless it is 100%.
I do not want to set a precedent that I was happy with a far from perfect vehicle.

I will be looking at Dept of Fair Trade soon.
Does anyone know where to go to take Jeep on as in Solicitor/Lawyer?

I'm keen to get the ball rolling.

Any suburban solicitor should be able to advise you, at least initially, on consumer law. Any can also issue a "solicitors letter on your behalf.

In NSW there is a set procedure for dealing with consumer complaints - was the CTTT but they changed their name - it will come up on google.

Re: Ouch! Starter motor will not disengage.

This sounds 100% like the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) commonly referred to as the fuse box which also contains layers of computer chips. Dust, water and corrosion over time short circuit the capacitors and chips which in turn do the above weird symptoms (such as horn, wipers, lights, locks, start motors, air con blower fan etc... going off)

As I posted before, this was well known pre-Fiat era as the layers of chips in the TIPM aren't protected as they are simply smothered in die-electric grease and overtime debris enters and short circuits the chips.

See here for more info about the TIPM - A Defective TIPM Is Causing Dangerous Power Problems in Chrysler Vehicles

Re: Ouch! Starter motor will not disengage.

After a few days of trying what the techs suggest from Melbourne, the service section still cannot fix the problem. Seems to have even the 'gurus' stuffed.

Whatever the guys working on the car were told to do by the techs from Melbourne, blew the PCM.
Now I am told I have to wait another 2 weeks for the new part to get in from the States.
My suggestion of putting it in an express bag and getting it here priority fell on deaf ears.
2 weeks??
I just had an engine (320 kg)sent to me from Ohio. It was landed in Sydney within 4 days. ((Not for the Jeep, But........)).

Re: Ouch! Starter motor will not disengage.

Good Service and Jeep Australia should not be used in the same sentence, as it implies they actually supply good service and actually care.
