Paint protection?

Hi all, getting a new car and looking for thoughts on paint protection. I'm not very good at washing and waxing and have had 2 bat strikes on our jeep damaging the paint. They're quoting $500. I intend keeping the car for 5+ years.

Re: Paint protection?

I'm looking at opti-coat, gets good write ups. Not sure what it costs, but had a quote for opti-coat PRO ceramic and 3m tint for all windows at $830.

Find a product,
Buy that product,
Apply it yourself.

Save your hard earned money, and you will get as good a job if not better.

Re: Paint protection?

Two of the commonly offered paint protections that get good reports are Opti Guard and Ceramic Pro. The price you have quoted for this type of thing is good, especially if it done properly which means a basic detail should be done first to make the surface ready for the application.
From memory I was going to get Ceramic Pro done as a few tests I saw showed it seem to sheet water the best after a lot of washes. Then I got some good scratches on my bonnet which I haven’t gotten fixed yet.

I know there is a JG member in Melbourne who recently got it done and was very happy.
I can’t seem to find the thread, he had a Limited in Max Steel from memory, or True Blue, damn, this is annoying me.

Here is another older thread about it - Paint protection is it worth getting it..

There are some sealants you can get yourself to do that require less attention to detail, and thus also don’t last as long. Zainos comes to mind, which should be done about twice a year.

Re: Paint protection?

Yep, good surface prep is the key to a long lasting paint sealant. Better to get someone who knows how to apply it than going for the cheapest option, if you want it to last.

Re: Paint protection?

I'm planning to get the opti-coat put on the day of arrival as well. After doing a bit of research on the possibilities a while ago, the clincher for me was an anecdote from someone during the Brisbane storms - tree branch fell down the side of the car with an almighty crash, on inspection they couldn't even find where it would have hit.

Re: Paint protection?

I'm hoping it will give me a bit of protection against bush pin-striping. Not expecting miracles, but could be the difference between a scratch that will buff out and one that wont.

Re: Paint protection?

First thing: Do not buy any extras like paint protection, rust prevention or tinting from a dealer

Second: If you are not the kind of person who will polish, then find a good detailer and give your car an annual detail. These guys will apply something that will keep the car looking great for 12 months.
Any "paint protection" will require annual maintenance to keep it effective.

Paint protection?

About $5,000 for a full wrap. Can look awesome though.

See this recent job. 2014 Jeep GC SRT Wrapped in Matte Dark Grey

Re: Paint protection?

A couple of days after i picked up my car i got Solar Tint to install tinting on the glass and a liquid glass product on the paintwork and a leather protectant all as a package. After that i got Xpel Ultimate clear paint protection film for the front end.

Dried up bird poop, bat crap or anything will wash off very easily just with a bit of water. I went 4WDing and thought i would have the bush pinstripes, i could hear them happening but when i ran my fingers down the pinstripes i was amazed that they quite easily were removed. When i washed my car after the trip there was no visible marks anywhere to be seen on the paintwork or the clear bra. It is like there is a thin layer of glass protecting the paintwork.
