Power steering fluid res min

Hi

I had to top up my power steering fluid last week before my road trip as it was at MIN.

I looked around the steering column and noticed this dusted up oil patch?

Is it anything to be concerned about or should it need replacing?

I'm currently on the final year of maxcare extended warranty.

I guess you have two options:
1. Clean the area yourself and monitor over a few weeks to pin point it's location. Do you know when you last checked the level? Look like it may have been weeping for sometime. Then your call for option 2.
2. Have a dealer check it out and let you know if it's covered under warranty.

if he has Maxcare it's covered, Also i don't know how many miles you have, if you have a good rep with the dealer have the tech do a Super check on just about everything wheel bearings etc. get them taken care of.

So looks like the steering rack needs to be replaced at $2.5k. Apparently the servicing dealer can't do the replacement under warranty, so the car needs to go back to the purchasing dealership for warranty to take place.

Can anyone tell me if the 2012 limited came with some sort of front axl underbody cover(where the sump is)? I can't tell if anything is missing after the service. Just doesn't look rite, but then again I don't look underneath too often.

Power steering fluid res min

Had the same issue with my 2012 the power steering level kept dropping and it turned out to be a leaking steering rack. Cost me $2200 to get rebuilt with new seals ouch!!!! Wife told me to contact FCA about the fault occurring to a reasonably new car and upon further consultations with their technicians they reimbursed me for the repair even though I was out of the warranty period 😀😀😀

Car is going in to the original stealership i purchased from to get a "diagnositics done" on an obvious sightable leak on the rack... at $160... out of pocket and 4hour job.

They say if need replacing, the parts should be covered under my maxcare plus extended warranty.

Well if they are prepared to cover repair under the maxcare warranty they should also cover the diagnostics also ???

If post 2011 it's covered by Australian Consumer Law regardless, aftermarket warranty rarely / never worth it.

Update, car went in today for diagnostics. They picked up obviously a steering rack leak, transmission cooler leak and a radiator leak.

I just had a transmission fluid change last month at another dealer when it went in for a 96,000 km service.

They will see what the extended warranty company says in a few days time.

They will try to claim the diagnostic fees later and did not charge me today.

Odd that after diagnostics that my driveway is pooled with what looks like transmission cooler leak...

Re: Power steering fluid res min

Just got the car back from the dealer. All fixed! All parts were ordered weeks ago and they spent the yesterday replacing the steering rack and pinion, transmission/ac condenser cooler and a new radiator. All new fluids, power steering, transmission, radiator and ac regased.

Had a spec'd up new Hyundai Sonata for a loaner, that turbo...

No out of pocket! Can't say I'm any happier with how it was all handled by the dealer in the maddington area.
