What, you guys don't use your hand to apply the park brake? You're weird.

I find it a pain to do handbrake turns with this handbrake 😊

Re: Product Safety Recalls Australia

Hi guys
My MY14 GC has just had the trans shifter recall done. After 4 hours of downloads for all the modules in the car, no friggin diff to anything except some irrelevant changes to a couple of unrelated warning icons.

Don't know what problem they was trying to solve but I'm pretty sure they missed. Sheesh.

Your shouldn't feel any difference. My understanding is that in rare cases, the transmission can spontaneously pop out of gear. This can be dangerous and in at least one case has caused a death. The recall is supposed to fix this.

Thanks for the comment BobT. I'm still surprised that software changes alone are claimed to prevent the Park issue occurring. Max

Re: Product Safety Recalls Australia

After I got mine I set the EVIC display for the transmission to single display.
A lot easier to glance at and register which gear it's in.

Re: Product Safety Recalls Australia

Mine is being serviced today and looks like this recall (s49) is being applied. The service consultant had no idea what it was. I thought it was called recall s27. When I told him I was not keen on having the 'forced park when door is open update' installed, he said that one was not in Australia yet. Now I check here and find s49 is the same thing. NOT HAPPY. I have a need to reverse a small trailer by looking out the door, and I do not leave the vehicle without it being in parked and brake applied.

I will report back after I get it back to evaluate the update.

Don't worry...be happy. My updated vehicle let's me get out with motor running in any gear or N without any protest. Where did you hear that P is forced upon door open? Why wasn't I told? . Max

It's all electronic these days. When you move the gear shift lever you are not actually moving gears. All it does is flick a few switched that tell the CPU what you would like to happen. The CPU then decides how best to accommodate your needs if indeed it can. It's like fly by wire. Not all situations have been foreseen leading to the poor little CPU getting confused at times.

In the FCA description of S27:

New software must be installed which includes an “Auto Park” feature which eliminates the possibility of the driver inadvertently failing to place the transmission into “PARK” prior to exiting the vehicle. An addendum card for the owner’s manual must be placed in each vehicle.
