Mozzie, Get a spare seatbelt buckle or slip the existing seatbelt behind your back, plug it in and soldier on!

Re: Product Safety Recalls Australia

Recall S49 (AKA S27) was applied by default. Dealer did not know what it was until I told him. He had no details of the park feature.

My test: when all 4 conditions are met it will auto-park.

1 - not in park
2 - seat belt undone
3 - driver door open
4 - brake pedal NOT pushed

When some conditions are not in effect, it just gives you an EVIC warning alert. As stated by 67HR, as long as the seat belt is in, it will only alert.

There were other issues with the dealer but I will put this in the steering thread. Power steering all over the floor?

They charge $118.18 for 6L of engine oil

Just picked up 3 X 5L Penrite Enviro + 5W-20 for $40.80 each from Repco.. Oil change on Sat..
Have a new sump plug for Sat, but after I replace it, I'll see if I can just use a replacement O-ring next time.

Now back to topic...

Now back to topic...[/QUOTE]This had been dealt with quite a lot before on the Export Grand Cherokee 2011+ thread but I'll leave it to you to hunt it down. Firstly, Penrite is not an oil manufacturer but an Aussie oil marketer. Where they source their oil from or how good it is, is somewhat of a leap of faith. Secondly, you certainly do not need to replace the sump plug. All you need to replace is the copper washer (it's not an O-ring, at least not on my diesel). If you hunt around you should be able to get a handful of washers for a matter of cents. Yes I know, the dealers always replace the entire sump plug, or so they say. Perhaps it's easier that way and they can charge you for it. Sump plugs simply don't wear out. Copper washers can also be used again in a pinch but it's best to replace them. They always seal better when new and soft. If used too often, they work harden, won't seal as well and may crack.

Yep, $118 for engine oil. But last year it was $133. We should be grateful that it dropped 11%

Re: Product Safety Recalls Australia

Bob,
All good points however, the manual does not identify a copper crush washer as the gasket for my sump.
I had a good look at the sump bolt I purchased tonight, and it was interesting that the seal is a molded part of the higher assembly.
Looks like that's what we have to purchase....

As for Penrite, it was the only 5W-20 I could find locally with the Chrysler Material Standard. Is it a leap of faith, maybe, but so is having the dealer do my oil changes. The boys from the Bush in Newcastle documented Diesel 10W-30 in my servicing invoice. When I question them about it, there was the instant response with out checking "no we must have used Maxpro 5W-20, we have just documented the wrong oil... Hmmm.. Now that's a leap of faith...

Sorry, I should have checked your signature. You have a 3.6L Pentastar whereas I have the 3L CRD. Don't know if you can just change the O-ring. You'll have to work that one out yourself. Let us know what you come up with. Regarding the oil, I think you'll find that on the Penrite bottle you will see the words "meets or exceeds". What that means is that in Penrite's opinion the oil meets or exceeds the specification. The words you want to see is "Approved to". That means the oil has been tested and approved by Chrysler. However, those oils are harder to find and don't come cheap. We diesel guys are pretty pedantic about our oils because it's so important for the health of the DPF. We tend to use Mobil 1 but of course in quite a different formulation to what you need in the Pentastar. Yes, the dealers will always use the cheapest they think they can get away with but them maybe it's not such an issue for petrol engines.
