Question on lights and radio operation - GC 2014

Hi,

Two basic questions:

1/ When you turn the light switch to parking lights it seems the tail lights do not come on unless its dark ? Is that how its supposed to work ? Is there a way of having parkers on front and rear during the day ?

2/ When you turn off the audio system mine only remembers that until the car is switched off, when you start up next time the audio (radio, ipod, whatever) is back on - is the only way for it to remember you want it off to turn the volume to 0 ?

thanks,
Seedar.

Well there are driving lights and parking lights. Drining lights can be turned on and off in uconnect and do not include tail lights. Parking lights you can turn on with your headlight switch and do include tail lights

By driving lights I assume you mean DRL - Daylight Running Lights ?

Also when I turn on parking lights the rear tail lights do NOT come on unless its dark outside ???? Thats what I dont understand.

Maybe a dumb question, but if it is daylight, why do you want the parking lights on? Parking lights are designed to be used in unlit (read Night time) areas while parking on the side of a road.

Re: Question on lights and radio operation - GC 2014

I had the same idea. The park lights are useful when driving in rain/low light.

The OP is correct that the park light position does not active as such when driving. My solution is to operate the fog lights. Press the lights dial to activate. This will operate the fog and tail lights as suggested.

The lights press function cycle : front fog - front + rear fog - front fog - OFF

Remember to TURN the dial to OFF position when stopped as the park/fog lights will remain on.

Fair question

I live in a hills area where there's often fog/rain and would prefer they are on for visibility reasons even in the day. I know I can turn on the rear fog lights but thats bordering on overkill and they tend to be too bright for drivers behind unless the weather is really bad.....

No, please no, NEVER do this. Parking lights are for just that, parking in potential dangerous spot with no surrounding lights. This is actually a legal requirement. If it is dark enough to have lights on, then use your regular lights, never use your parking lights. Parking lights are never sufficient for what you are considering more dangerous conditions. On top of that, this leads people into thinking their lights are on when it actually becomes night time due to the change in the instrument cluster illumination, a seriously dangerous condition. If they are not switching on automatically, then turn the dial until they are fully on.
Fog lights are to only be used when it is foggy, again, another legal requirement.

It has always baffled me why people want to use parking lights for driving, instead of the actual driving lights (I’m not referring to DRLs). They are both designed to do specific things, please use them for their purpose to help everyone.

Sorry I must disagree with you on this, for start from the rear of the car - and that is where the issue is - there is no difference, tail lights/parking lights are the same. If the situation is bad I agree, use full lights. No arguement. All I am saying is what many other car makers do, like BMW for instance. If you have DRL on then the tail lights are on too - I am confused as to why Jeep has DRL on (which are exactly for the purpose I have in mind - visibility) from teh front but nothing for the rear.

agreed, also they are not always required - hence why DRL exist.
