Re: Rear safety camera

Some of you guys can be very patient indeed. Seven months is kinda like "we're not intending on doing it"...

Cheers,
Steve

Believe me it is not worth the wait.

Not a "genuine" Jeep camera, but something from China / Taiwan, see posted pictures around page 5, that is barely adequate in the day and totally unusable at night.

The camera on my MY13 Trailhawk is rubbish too. Is there an aftermarket one which would do a better job?

Yes, listed multiple times in this thread already. Read back and you will find them.

I guess I wasn't specific enough - I have spent a couple of hours going through this thread in detail, including the links posted by your good self.

I could find only one reference to an actual camera - posted by Peanut, and these are out of stock. I would be interested to hear of any others that people have had good results with.

The resolution in my view is not bad, but I have never had a rear park camera before to compare it to.

So, not sure where to now??

Bit tired, think I might go home now.
Is the quality of the pictures you posted a "true" representation of what is actually displayed on your screen ?

Any pictures I take with my Sony Cyber Shot seem to be 100% better than the actual "real life" screen image, as per attached shot at night. It seems to "forgive" the flicker and grainy lines.

Gotcha, if you search ebay for the exact same description as per the one Peanut got, you will get lots of options in stock

Would be interested to see what the quality is like, although at $23 odd dollars, probably not a risky investment.

Hence why in October 2013 I told my dealer I won't take the car unless it is fitted. They fitted one.

I was in a VF Commodore recently and it wasn't much better then the Jeeps. Very grainy, less fisheye though.

They all seem to have a co-ax connection.

It will require a bit of "work" to convert a co-ax to bayonet.

Re: Rear safety camera

Not really.

One thing though, unless you're into fine electronic work probably don't cut the cable out of the camera. The wire is typically thin as hair and can be extremely hard to reterminate well.

Just use an RCA plug soldered on to the factory wiring after cutting the Weatherpack connector off. It's unshielded to the front anyway from appearances. If you can't solder, you could use one end of an AV interconnect, plus an electrical screw block to make the join.

Alternatively... liquid solder, Scotch Locks, twist and tape, etc... bearing in mind that they may not last as long and may need another visit in the future.

Cheers,
Steve
