Re: Rear safety camera

To me this appears to be another penny pinching exercise by Jeep Australia.
I also believe the advertised camera for the lower end Grand Cherokees was to be a Parkview, which they claim is a registered brand.
They obviously don't want to pay the wholesale price for the Mopar unit, so feel quite happy to fit a $10 unit and butcher the fitting.

IMHO arguing that we were not supplied 'Parkview' cameras as per the specifications guide/brochure could be a successful approach to the problem.
I'm going to give it a go with Fair Trading.

If successful then I'll try to get them for falsely advertising tow hooks in their Accessories Brochure...

If you check out carsales Web sites here in Oz the current Laredo stock lists elsd and reverse cameras. Many list the camera as on the vehicle now.

And yet many are still waiting.

CRAZY

Cheers

Well, time to stop the waffle and do something.

I contacted Consumer Affairs Victoria and am now in the process of formulating and submitting a complaint regarding this piece of crap.

All evidence needs to be submitted involving the MY14 Laredo camera advertising and that will come from Jeeps own brochures and evidence of what has been in fact supplied in contradiction of that advertised product.

As well as brochure evidence we can also gather evidence of the Jeep Aust web site. Any other Victorian irate MY14 GC Laredo owners out there feel free to supply me with evidence.

First step to test the waters. Consumer Affairs Vic told me that a successful Vic appeal will roll over tot the rest of Australia as there is no central federal body.

So here we go. let the jousting begin. As has been the exprience of others on this website, a formal complaint and response needs to be made to the supplier namely Chrysler,Fiat,Jeep Aust.

When to complain

We advise and assist both consumers and businesses; however, we can only accept a formal complaint about a business or landlord, not a consumer or tenant.

We can accept written complaints when:
  • the consumer or tenant has made a reasonable attempt to resolve the dispute with the business or landlord. For more information, view our Resolve a dispute page
  • the subject matter is within our jurisdiction and is not more appropriately handled by another body
  • consumer or tenancy legislation or the consumerís or tenantís contractual rights appear to have been breached
  • the complaint has a reasonable chance of being settled
  • the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) or the courts have not already ruled on the matter and there is no case pending.
We can try to help you reach an agreement by providing advice or conciliation. However, only VCAT or the courts can compel a business or landlord to resolve an issue. We can advise you about your options with VCAT or the courts.
Conciliation

Conciliation is an informal process to help you and the business resolve the dispute through communication, identifying the issues in dispute and exploring options for resolution.

Re: Rear safety camera

I believe you do not need to contact Jeep Australia, but just a dealership.
The dealership is the front face of Jeep Australia, and you will most likely find that if you did contact Jeep direct, the first thing they would ask is whether you had raised the issue with the dealer.
If I were involved, I would take the car to the dealer, armed with all the brochure evidence etc, and ask them to rectify the fault. i.e. supply a working camera that matches the description. If that fails, then write to them with your complaint, and advise that if a satisfactory solution is not found within x days, you will take it to the ACCC. Let the dealership refer the matter to Jeep.

My letter to the dealer was sent 2 weeks ago, got a reply saying the would forward my "concerns" onto CJA.

Followed up with a phone call to CJA customer assistance and got the party line of basically "you get what you are given".

Waste of time and effort.

Pity that the dealers don't push back on CJA when they see crap like this happening.

Perhaps it may be deemed as a 'waste of time', but it is a necessary step.
You are now in a position to escalate the matter.
When dealing with CJA by phone, always request the name of the person you spoke to and note the date and time of that conversation as well as what was actually said. You can also record the conversation, as long as you tell them you are doing so. They are recording you, on the basis of "training", so why not do it back?

First step is to work out what camera is on the vehicle to prove it is a non genuine part, (not a 'Parkview').

If you view the pictures on page 5 of this thread, my external fitting and camera look exactly the same.

Re: Rear safety camera

Has anyone had experience with this mob?? I notice they were advertised on this site when I view it, so may not necessarily appear on your screen.
Buy Cheap Car Reversing System Installed - Rear View LCD Display Mirror, Rear View Camera Fitted

If the camera is as poor as everyone states, then will have to investigate other options. As previously stated, my dealer just shrugs and says, that is what is supplied. Didn't even want to explore after market options, stating that is my problem once I get the car.

Okay, just to follow up, called the above and they can't wire the camera into the existing sytem. They will either replace the screen in the car or make it a clip over the mirror system. So pretty useless.

It is NOT your problem after you took delivery.
It is still theirs. For example, if it stopped working because of some fault, it must be repaired or replaced. I am not telling you to destroy it, but rather telling you what should happen. Is it waterproof?

Re: Rear safety camera

CRAPPY CHRYSLER CAMERA!!!

G'day all,

I am sick and tired of Jeep Aust and their bullshit attitude with their customers. They forget we are their bread and butter.

It took 4 months to get my camera after vehicle delivery, partly because I waited 2 months in the hope that a better quality camera would be available by then.
Sadly disappointed as are many of us.

So, as Mao said "First step on a journey of a thousand miles' or something like that.

* Official complaint to the dealer in writing.
* Official letter to Chrysler,Jeep,Fiat,Dodge,RAM, Alfa Aust or whatever their name is this week.
* Negative response from the two abovenamed parties (in writing of course) and then a submission to Consumer Affairs Victoria.

Points of complaint include;
* Misleading advertising in their brochures, online and hard copy. That includes the printed word and in image form.
* Misuse of the registered trademark "ParkView" camera for the MY14 Laredo
* Supplied camera does not conform to the descrition identified as "ParkView" camera

I have detailed information extracts from the USA describing the "ParkView" trademark registered to the Chrysler group LLC.
I have Chrysler Part Numbers for the Ltd and Overland "ParkView" camera's.

This information was asked for and obtained from within Fiat/Chrysler USA.

Only additional information I need now is;
* Photo images of the non conforming supplied camera's by Chrysler Jeep Aust.
* Technical details of the non conforming camera supplied by Chrysler Jeep Aust. eg. pixels and resolution details.
* Photo and technical details of the "ParkView" camera fitted to the Ltd and Overland.

My contact within Chrysler Fiat Jeep USA advises me that the supplied "ParkView" camera for the Ltd and Overland in the USA retails for US$265.00. (Their parts list price)

My bet is that Chrysler Jeep Fiat Aust cost for the non conforming MY14 Laredo camera does not come anywhere near that dollar figure.

Fellow MY14 Laredo owners, can you advise me of any further Points of Proof that I may have missed before I start compiling my submission.
I realise that Consumer Affairs Victoria can only facilitate a resolution between the parties; ie myself and Chrysler Fiat Jeep Aust.

But if an outcome is in my/our favour then it rolls over to an Australia wide verdict with each of the States accepting it as precedence and implementing the verdict.

The ACCC may also be interested in this complaint as well.

Hope to hear from any of you on this matter. I will be submitting this on other Jeep forums too.

Bluey
