Can you supply the details of where you got your camera replacement from ?

I spoke to Burg Design in Victoria re a replacement camera, and they told me that they are "working" on a camera, as the signal back to the head unit must be 6 volts only, and that a "normal" 12 volt camera will not work.

Anyone else replaced their camera ?

Whilst I have no first hand evidence of the contrary, this sounds like a load of rubbish. If the Uconnect system does not accept a standard "composite video" signal I will bare my butt in Bourke Street.

Others have successfully replaced the camera with off the shelf items...

Cheers,
Steve

Looks like you have covered it Hymer (Bluey).
I'm still trying to get a part number out of the dealer for the crap camera they put in my Laredo.

Once I get that I'll be lodging the same in NSW.

Then where are the replies stating which type/brand of camera was used as the replacement, and where it was sourced from ?

Re: Rear safety camera

Well this is a partial mystery mate. There have been loose details offered up, but links to specific equipment have been scarce. I definitely get what you're saying...

I tried my previous supplier of automotive cameras in China about a week ago, but they didn't have a housing I would class as totally ideal. They did have the "angled cube" type that the Cheap dealers are fitting, and have better quality sensors available than what these locally fitted cameras appear to have. That said, I'd hoped to leverage interest in providing a tailored solution however it appears the demand isn't there.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Rear safety camera

Hi Steve

Apart from the photo's by Archcat74 on Page 5 and the word document by KunWok on Page 6 there are no real specifications on the crap camera's.

That's why I have been ringing around several local "suppliers" and the first real lead I had was from the guy at Burg Design.

He said is aware of the Jeep camera problem, and that they had been trying to develop a locally made camera for a while, and that's when he explained to me that the camera runs off 12volt, but sends only a 6volt signal to the head unit.

He said to call next week and I could possibly come down to look at/try the camera.

He provided the following link to look at the mini stalk camera on page 12 of the catalogue which the "new" camera is based on.

Online catalogue - Parksafe Summer 2013 reversing sensors cameras monitorsParksafe Australia

Need a Plan B if Hymer's legal stuff goes nowhere.

I have sent a letter to the editor of the RACV magazine, hoping to get more exposure to the issue.

Re: Rear safety camera

The correct parts you should be getting fitted to your 14's is Loom PRT # AUSWKKL2014WL, Moulded shroud and camera 1WD55GW7AI, this kit was developed in Australia by Lumen for Jeep, the same company that developed the camera kit for the 11,12,13's.

Cheers

These may be the "correct" parts, but the product is crap, that is what everyone is complaining about.

It is not the ParkView camera that is in the Jeep Australia brochures.

You can do what ever you want with the information, I simply supplied it so you could confirm that they where at least supplying "jeep parts" and not aftermarket.

Cheers

I asked my dealer yesterday over the phone about my camera and whether it was genuine or not. He replied it was genuine Mopar with moulding etc... So he could have been referring to the Australian Jeep GENUINE Mopar product, like the tow bar.

Cheers

Thanks Adam for the info.
Dont worry about Harada, he hasnt taken his anti-Grumpy Pills today but normally he's OK.

I have just contacted Lumen (down here in Melbourne at Hallam). Couldnt speak to a techo but will send off an email with a list of questions to the sales people who will pass it on.

I have the technical data of their Rear Camera Flyer.
Specifications:
Imaging Device: ” Image CMOS Sensor
Video Out: NTSC
Horizontal Reolution: 350 TV Lines
Current Consumption: DC 12v, <90mA (max)
Operating Voltage: DC 12v (9v ~ 16v)
Field of View: 133 3 (H) 101 3 (V)
S/N Ratio: 32dB
Storage Temperature: -40 C ~ 90 C
Operating Temperature: -35 C ~ 80 C

Minimum Illumination: 1 Lux

I agree with Harada, I still wouldnt say that it is a Mopar/Chrysler supplied product as it still doesnt deliver the vision as outlined in the Jeep Aust brochures and still doesnt conform to "ParkView" quality standards and I still regard it as an after market product.

But thanks again anyway Adam. Any further info on this subject appreciated as well.

Now calm down Harada and dont forget those pills, mate.

Bluey
