Have now got a lot of supportive evidence for the claim against Jeep Aust

One piece of evidence I need to provide is photographic evidence of the quality of the MY11/12/13 Grand Cherokee Laredo's rear camera compared against the current MY14 Grand Cherokee Laredo camera in terms of picture quality and resolution in a number of situations.

Therefore my request is for a MELBOURNE based owner of a MY11/12/13 Grand Cherokee Laredo to contact me for a photo shoot of the relative rear camera's quality.

If any are willing to help me in this please Private Message (PM) me on this and we can exchange details for the shoot.

I am willing to travel to most parts of Melbourne for it.
I live in Cheltenham

Ideally the photos should be shot in bright sunlight, dull daytime, dusk and night time periods. So people knowing Melbourne all those conditions would happen here in a relativel short space of time in a day.

I now have documented evidence that Jeep Aust MY11/12/13 Laredos were supplied with both wiring looms and the camera by a Melbourne company.

They also said that for the MY14 Laredos they only supply the wiring looms and NOT the camera. That is supplied by Jeep Aust.

So the final bit of evidence I need is the make and technical qualityof the substandard rear camera supplied by Jeep Aust for the MY14 Laredo.

Any help with the two abovementioned requests please contact me.

Thanks for that

Me thinks you need to chill a little. It's really not that necessary.

Re: Rear safety camera

Hymer (Rob)

Here is the pictures of the camera. JA must have had it made specially "read cheap" in China just like their $65 Genuine Mopar Oil Filters

There is no markings or brands on the camera body itself.

Hope this helps with you claim Rob.

Re: Rear safety camera

Being relatively new to JG I've only just discovered this thread. I too have the same issue and am just about to go to the Dept of Fair Trading in NSW after 2mths of no response to complaints to JA.
It would appear that JG rules on PM's is blocking me from contacting "Hymer" at the moment. Would appreciate you getting in touch if you see this.

Thanks Hymer. Help was valuable.

Re: Rear safety camera

Hello there, my first post so be gentle (-:

Have the same issue as it seems everyone else regarding the rear camera performance on my 2014 JGC Laredo diesel.

When I test drove the car, there was no rear camera fitted so I could not assess it. When I got back to the dealer, I verified that as per the specs, a rear camera was included. He confirmed that it would be fitted before delivery and showed me the mounting position.

Coming from a Subaru Outback Premium, my expectation was that it would meet or exceed (Moores Law) the camera in that vehicle. Boy was i wrong.

Interesting point to note is that some people who have bought a JGC Laredo may not have experience with a quality rear camera and simply accept that what is delivered is normal. It definitely isn't.

When I took delivery of the car, the salesman put it into reverse and said what a great camera it was. I said, no, that's crap. It clearly was a very low cost camera with abysmal resolution and virtually no dynamic range.

That night, I put it in reverse and could not believe how poor it was. It is positioned such that it gets reflections from the number plate but that is not the sole reason for poor performance. I took the car back to the dealer and mentioned it to a guy in service dept. He jumped in the car and had a look and said he would compare it to a car in the showroom that was ready for delivery. He jumped out of that one and said it was WORSE than mine.

Said he would talk to the service manager about rectification and call me back. Didn't call back (that was his first mistake) so called him again. To cut a long story short, he said he had eventually spoken to the service manager who had written to Jeep Australia about it. That was his second mistake.

In the meantime, received a welcome email from the dealer asking if everything was OK. I replied via email with my camera issue, five minutes later got a call back from the service manager who said my email was the first he had heard of MY issue and that the service clerk had lied about writing to Jeep Australia. Wow!!

He also said he was surprised that Jeep would put such a low resolution camera on the high resolution screen on the dash. Interesting. He said he would pursue it with the Jeep rep.

Called him today and he said that he had spoken to Jeep Australia and that they had said it is what it is and that's the best jeep can do and that there is no other camera available from Jeep to improve it. Said he would reposition it to try and avoid the reflections from the number plate but that was all they could do.

Car is due for it's first service next Tuesday. That's their last opportunity to correct it.

After that, I will pursue the dealer (not Jeep Australia) through Dept of Fair Trading in NSW (as my sale contract is with the dealer). Had an issue with a BMW motorcycle last year and went through Fair Trading and won.

Simple issue is that the product is not fit for purpose. Not sure what remedies are available. Others experience may throw some light on that.

I tried to find a words to describe the picture. I liken it to the images shown on TV back on July 24, 1969 when man first landed on the moon. In other words, crap!

Jeep Australia and the dealer should note that installing a five dollar camera in such a great vehicle severely damages the customer experience. Dickheads!

Re: Rear safety camera

You could fit a Limited / Overland camera and garnish... as Jeep Australia should have. Imported from the US isn't too outrageous, especially when you're fighting to have someone else foot the bill!

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Rear safety camera

Thanks Steve. Have thought of that and looked at the US Mopar site but can't locate a parkview camera for a Limited. At the moment I'm negotiating with a wrecker for the same item. However like several others here I'm going to the Dept of Fair Trading to push the issue as JA is ignoring every approach to resolve the issue.

Steve, Milous gave me the parts numbers for the rear camera for the MY14 Ltd and Overland (same camera).
Factory/warehouse price is US$265, slightly more than the $20 camera they (Jeep Aust) are currently supplying for the Laredo.
Today, I compared side by side a MY12 Laredo camera with mine and that is infinitely better vision. We now know why.

And, why should the paying customer have to go to that effort as well pay extra for a camera which is part of the Chrysler/Jeep "ParkView tm" system and as such should be supplied as per Jeep Aust own brochcure says. Laredo was no exception.

So the complaints are building and Jeep Aust willl soon know that it doesnt pay to shortcut the customer.

Issues such as poor resolution, false and misleading advertising and fit for purpose will have to be addressed by Jeep Aust.

Re: Rear safety camera

Well Ineedabiggerboat you've hit it on the head. If you want to collaborate on your DoFT submission drop me a PM and we'll go from there.
As to the reversing camera's fitted to the Limited & Overland - they are what Jeep should have put in the Laredo. Pure and simple. It is obvious they have decided to penny pinch and provide that $5 piece of super wide angle crap.
