MD, this may help you. Straight from the horses mouth in the US.

Here are the factory OEM part numbers for the 2014 Grand Cherokee:

68137943AD
68137943AE
68137943AF
68137943AG

"AD" was the original part number, AE/AF/AG are superseding part numbers. Most likely just small differences in manufacturing.

MSRP via parts department is $262, you would think for that price it would be a superior high def camera!

Re: Rear safety camera

Thanks for your kind comment Blacopal. I'm new here so PM me if possible.

Some more "ammo" for you guys and gals:

The Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) incorporates various statutory guarantees into consumer contracts in Schedule 2: Australian Consumer Law.

Section 54 Guarantee as to acceptable quality

Goods are of acceptable quality if they are fit for all the purposes for which goods of that kind are supplied. Quality is assessed by a reasonable consumer fully acquainted with the state and condition of the goods having regard to the nature and price of the goods, and any other relevant circumstances arising during the sale of the goods. This guarantee would not apply to the extent that you had the chance to inspect quality prior to purchase or where quality is adversely affected by your abnormal use.

Section 55 Guarantee as to fitness for purpose

There is a guarantee that the goods are reasonably fit for any disclosed purpose about which the supplier represents that they are reasonably fit. A disclosed purpose can arise expressly or by implication, in any prior negotiations or arrangements in relation to the acquisition of the goods. This guarantee would not apply if the circumstances show that a consumer did not rely on, or that it was unreasonable for the consumer to rely on, the skill or judgment of the party making the disclosure.

Dealer or Manufacturer?

A claim about acceptable quality can be made against either the dealer or the manufacturer. A claim about fitness for purpose can only be made against the dealer (the dealer is likely to have an indemnity against the manufacturer, but this has nothing to do with you).

Cheers
Bruce

The dealer I went through told me that the Overland/Limited camera went thru a "different" module in the head unit to what is installed in the Laredo, and may not work.

More crap to stop owners pushing the dealer for a better camera ?

kunwok posted that he bought a $23.00 camera from ebay and installed it.

Said it was significantly better.

He gave me the link but unfortunately it was sold out.

Re: Rear safety camera

I went into a local jeep dealer yesterday and was able to watch a laredo have the camera installed. I have had my jeep for two weeks now and twice, two different people have pushed the camera into the trim thinking it was a button to open the rear hatch.

After seeing the install I can now understand why this happens so easily.. The metal bracket is a thin simple right angle mount and it bends... I would say mine would be work hardening and will eventually fail (snap).

I am keen to replace with a limited camera for both quality and the mount.

What are all the part numbers involved to upgrade to the limited camera (trim and camera) assuming that I can reuse the wires from the rear of the jeep to the head unit.. is the plug at the rear of the jeep the same in both the limited and laredo..

Here is a video of my video quality and a pic of the cable from yesterday in the limited..

Re: Rear safety camera

MY 14 LAREDO CAMERA PETITION;

Well, this MY14 rear camera issue is going to another level now.
Jeep Aust/Chrysler Group LLC has put their heads in the sand and ignored reasoned complaints.

As well as submissions to three States Consumer Affairs/Fair Trading jurisdictions, I have started an on-line Petition to apply some more pressure for Jeep Australia to do the right thing.

Folks, if you can open up this Petition below and sign it (ie fill in the details) I would be grateful.

I hope to obtain more than 2,000 signatures for it. The signatorees do not necessarily have to be Jeep owners so could you pass this around and get all and sundry to sign it.

We will see where it goes. Thanks all.

Bluey

Done. Don't have a Laredo, but all Jeep owners should get behind this. You can bet your left wheel nut it wont be the last time Jeep AU treat their customers this way.

Not at all, open up the link and fill in your name, email addy and add your comments and SEND it off.

Easy as and would be appreciated by me and ultimately all Jeep MY14 GC Laredo owners if we can get a badly needed camera upgrade.

Get your friend to sign as well. Dont have to be a Jeep owner, just a person wanting a fair go.
