Thinking more on it all,....
Had a dealer fit cam installed and JA confirmed to me that it was the lesser quality of two cam installs.
Having said that there will currently be a loom in place to use.
Those that do not have a cam fitted will get, cam, applique and loom.
That's my take on it.

Re: Rear safety camera

I just got the good news that mine will be replaced next week and the dealer said they need it for the whole day. I think that must mean that they are replacing the loom too (?) Maybe....

Barboots, how have you connected you caravan cam into Uconnect ?

Ok, so I guess my theory was incorrect, unless of course there were two different looms with dealer fitted cams, Hell this is confusing.

Ring dealer to clarify.

Cheers

The cabling is a very small percentage. Also bear in mind I've not had a hands-on with the Mark 1 Laredo camera loom, however it didn't appear to offer the same signal protection that I've seen first hand in my Overland.

Maybe just hint to your dealer that you're kind of onto it, and have reservations about the loom not being changed out with the camera as there is potential for interference. That way, you can offer up some "I told you so" in the unlikely event that you have issues.

To be honest, I think it'll be OK. My caravan camera is signal and shield only and so far it has been free of noise on the U-Connect screen, but I've not used it for more than a few minutes.

Cheers,
Steve
Thanks Steve, I had the conversation with the Dealer here in Tas, they were not aware there were more than one camera dealer fit and after para phrasing your comments they said.... They'd be happy to do the new loom if JA authorised it but the new loom was not really needed .
I called JA, waiting to hear back from one of the managers there.
Thanks again Steve for your insight.

Cheers

Re: Rear safety camera

It'll be interesting to hear what comes back from JA mate. They must be spewing with the fallout from this Laredocam-Gate they have created
;-)

JA didn't get back to me this arvo. Hopefully tomorrow.
Certainly I will be emailing JA with this feedback from the dealership.
It would seem JA have made a determination based on the one of the two camera installs, that my cam does not require a new loom but the other camera install does????

Cheers

Re: Rear safety camera

Picked the car up this arvo after the camera install. It appears to be the new version as it matches the photos posted previously in this thread.

I think my main comment is, if this is as good as it gets, how bad was the original camera?? It's okay, does the job, however the image is slightly grainy. Will know better tomorrow during full daylight. No lines, even though in the Uconnect menu the box parkview camera with gridlines is selected. Doesn't however concern me. I'm used to reversing using just my mirrors, so to be able to check proximity to the back is a bonus for me.

Mine retrofitted today. And to me difference between old and new camera is Day and Night. Very happy.
