Re: Rear safety camera

OK, I had the Laredo reverse camera replaced today, and find the night performance far better than the one it replaced. Click the link for a before and after video. Note that the horizontal flickering in both shots was introduced by the phone I shot it on, and there are no such lines on the Uconnect screen.

Have to say it looks way better to me, the old one looked down too much, and the new one has better low light performance.

Props to Osborne Park Jeep for the professional, courteous service, free loan car, for updating my gearbox firmware, and doing the BCM recall all in one hit. I can only hope all my interactions with this dealer are as good!

The only downside was the loan car, a Patriot, which, for a 2014 car, drives and looks like it is a decade or more older. Really made me appreciate my WK2 when I got it back though

Rear safety camera

Have been away for some time and just catching up on posts. There seems to be a common thread to getting the run around and that is complaining to the dealer rather than going direct to JA.
I went after JA at the outset, being one of the first to do so, and although getting stuffed about initially got the "revised" camera fitted.
Hymer beat me to it by having his fitted as I was on the road while the replacement camera sat on the dealers shelf until fitted a month ago.
In typical Jeep fashion my U-Connect system died completely some 2 weeks before the camera fitment thus becoming a warranty replacement so the installed camera is only now in use.
The "revised" camera is the same as Hymer's and works equally as well judging by his photo's. I gather that this was connected to the loom that was installed for the "original" crap version. Still no static lines which is an annoyance given JA's advertising. However I'm done with it and will let it go.
To all those who've been in touch during this saga I trust that the helping hand given has led to success. And of couse my thanks to Hymer for getting a bit more riled up than me.
So the moral of the story is - go straight to JA and complain because they're the one's pulling the strings.

Re: Rear safety camera

Thanks everyone for the info

I put mine in for the 20,000 service this morning. I presented a letter with photos requesting the updated camera. I'm not sure how it will go, but it's the second time I've put it in writing to them. First time the solution was a 'software update'. Yes, okay, but it did nothing to solve the problem.

So time for take 2.

What really got up my nose is the fact that I was reversing into a parking spot one night last week, and I cleaned up a metal guard attached to a concrete pillar at about small child height. Of course it was hidden by the washed out image from the crap camera, so it's of my opinion that this contributed directly to the incident. Sure, I accept that I should have taken better precautions, however had the camera been functioning correctly the metal guard would have been fully visible.

So would a small child, which would have potentially poor consequences.

Now I'm stuck with an avoidable repair bill - the first in over 30 years of driving.

I won't be stopping now until I get a satisfactory resolution (new camera).

My future relationship (and the potential relationship of a couple of mates') with this dealer will be dependent upon how they deal with this issue. I have two good sales leads - one of which is ready to pull the trigger on a new GC, the other who is close. They know of the issues I've had and are watching with interest.

Any chance of sharing who you emailed?

I'm still waiting on an official response from Jeep. I'm thinking that because I went more down the line of it not being a 'Parkview' camera as advertised, it has been refered to their legal section. I guess if they approve my request than technically it opens the flood gates.

Had someone push my camera into the tailgate the otherday, thinking it was a button.

Got mine done Yesterday.
Much better defn and colour at night to.
Plus less fisheye effect and now I have use (visual) of 4/5 of the screen rather than the 2/3rd's of fisheye low quality image and a 1/3 screen made up of number plate.

Best thing to do keep at JA.
Nicole, Sarah or my best results thru one of the Manager.
Ask to speak to Aaron if you get no joy.

I also discussed the possiblity of buying extended warranty thru JA and fixed price servicing. This is some thing JA may be offering with in 12 to 18 months.

They have given me another Year or extended 20000ks as a goodwill gesture due to the seven months of dramas and crap we endured.
I have a official letter confirmed the above. 4 Year 120000ks.
Camera works a treat, applique looks the good and JA offering was a pleasant surprise.

Cheers

Let us know how you get on with these things Rocksfly. Something I would be interested in purchasing down the track. An extra year on my warranty and the roadside assist to see out the lease. The fixed price servicing would depend on the price (compared to what they are charging me as a fleet lease holder) cheers mate.

Will do mate.

I simply mentioned that we were wanting to buy 4 years extended warranty and queried whether JA would be offering at some time, that was the response..... They are looking at offering both down the track, not a given but at least they are working on it.

Cheers

Re: Rear safety camera

My new camera and loom was fitted on Wednesday.
The difference is definitely worth the effort, but still not the best I've seen. I was told that parts are worth $3000 which leads to expectations of a professional quality picture. This one still falls short of the picture on my wife's Subaru Impreza. And I've lost the grid lines.
I guess in summary I would say it is acceptable where the old one wasn't.
