Re: Rear safety camera

Have had the new "all improved" camera fitted to the car (never had the old one) and notice it flickers when I begin reversing. Fine when still, however the moment I'm on the move it has this constant intermittent flick up the screen (a bit like it's refreshing). Doesn't affect what I see, however as posited elsewhere in this thread, for what it is supposedly worth, I would expect a whole lot more camera and quality for my dollar. Particularly given the price of GoPro's today and how good they are.

The cheap camera I had initially was doing that. If I reversed very slowly it wouldn't but at normal reverse speed it kept jittering.

The test is clarity of image at night and for me the colour also. Original cam was very grainy and appeared black and white (should read shades of hazy grey) the new cam has clarity and good colour. But it definitely is not a high end product.
Even cheap Chinese go pro. copies produce amazing 1080p quality at awesome frame rates with ability to have 170 down to 90 degree or less angle on the video.
Plug one into the av input on The Uconnect and see what you get. Haven't tried it myself.

Check it out at night and good luck with it all.

Cheers

Re: Rear safety camera

Mine is booked in for fitting next week. I bought it and only noticed the next morning that there was no rear cam displaying when hit in reverse.
Glad I jumped on these forums as no one at the dealership mentioned anything and that was after the salesman giving me the grand tour of the Uconnect.
I asked if it came with the appliqué of which they said yes. Other than that I hope they do a good job being a new Jeep dealership.

I had this with my factory camera and it was fixed after I did the most recent Uconnect update.

Re: Rear safety camera

I had mine in this week to investigate a front end knock.
Subsequent to my request at the 20k service (supported with photos), the dealer replaced mine while it was in there. Lost the guidelines (which never really lined up anyway), but I noticed the picture isn't as sharp during daylight, but it seems to be better in semi-dark carparks. Won't get to try it in 'real' darkness until tomorrow morning.

Re: Rear safety camera

Might be worth checking they installed the right one. They changed mine over first time to exactly the same old camera version. Had to go back for a second try to get the improved version, but now I have it, its better day but mostly improved at night.

Re: Rear safety camera

So far I've sent 7 emails to Jeep Australia tp409@chrysler.com and received 5 phone calls (03 9921 8901)over a 4 month period, they are telling me that at this stage Jeep have not made a decision on how the problem will be rectified. Fair Trading have told me it is very clear cut and as the camera does not function properly at night(the thing is useless in the dark) it is a warranty issue and it must be repaired/replaced if they will not fix the problem Fair Trading have told me to lodge a complaint at the NSW Civil & Administrative Tribunal
Thankyou Jeep Australia

We run Scania trucks here at work and they are all fitted with reversing cameras. The difference in quality between the Scania supplied and Jeep fitted is like night and day. The Scania models are crystal clear. Trust Swedish engineering! Mine is the new model but it's still pretty ordinary.

Re: Rear safety camera

Reversing camera success story here.

I got my Laredo last December and was pretty disappointed by the camera, but based on what I'd read here wasn't expecting any change so didn't bother and hoped I'd get used to it. The last straw was taking the car into a carwash and having the camera pushed up into the tailgate!! Not acceptable.

I sent an email to the dealer and cc'd Jeep Australia, not expecting much. I was impressed to get a phonecall from Jeep a few days later, but the message was basically they couldn't do anything and were waiting for Jeep US to get back to them about it. He suggested to try the dealer for a fix under warranty but implied that it wasn't likely. So I didn't get my hopes up.

Got a call from the dealer a few days later again, and he basically agreed that there was a problem with the camera, and I could bring it in to get replaced. I was very impressed, but still waiting to see the results before getting too excited.

Got it replaced last Thursday and it looked like the new camera, with the black plastic housing around the camera. The fisheye effect is much reduced and looked good in the daylight. Tried it at night on the weekend and it's a 100% improvement. Very happy with the results.

That is a load of BS. Jeep US has nothing to do with this "local addition" Those models in the US do not include a camera, so wanting to add sales pitch, the local Aus group decided to add them aftermarket. Problem is that due to the cost of the genuine camera, they decided to save costs and add a $1.99 camera. They have now realised that their original decision was wrong, and now have to implement the genuine article. Would have been much simpler to do it right the first time around, instead of generating a lot of bad will.

Re: Rear safety camera

I had mine in Geelong CJ for service and told them I wasn't happy with it. They came back saying they tested it and that it was working and that was the end of it. I have approached Chrysler Aus previously and got blown off also.

Think I'm gonna ramp it up some more now.
